Coming in at under 14-pounds and capable of hitting speeds up to 25mph, the Exway X1 is being marketed as the “most intelligent” electric skateboard to ever hit the market. Despite these big claims, dislodging top brands like Boosted isn’t going to be easy. Exway believes it has found the perfect blend of lightweight design and features to do just that.

At $900, the X1 comes in right in the middle of the electric skateboard market in terms of price. That extra bit of cash delivers features like Bluetooth connectivity and better performance over all in comparison to lower-cost alternatives out there right now.

As we’ve told you before, electric skateboards are particularly attractive for urban dwellers, commuters and students looking for an alternative to the ever rising costs that come with owning a vehicle. Exway looks to cash in on this trend with a few standout features, including new safety features that it says differentiates itself from the competition.

The Exway X1 is controlled entirely by a Bluetooth remote, which may have as many benefits as down-falls. I wouldn’t say that this brand of wireless connection is known for its rock-solid signal but maybe Exway has figured out a way to side-step any issues. There are four speed modes all together that allow riders to gradually build-up to full-speed riding.

Beginner mode tops the skateboard out at under 10mph, which is perfect for first timers. Additional settings include energy-saving, intermediate and advanced, all of which offer different capabilities. That Bluetooth remote that we mentioned earlier has a built-in one-inch display and a thumb-wheel that allows users to flip back and forth between settings as needed. Speed and other data is communicated on the handheld as well.

X1 uses a direct-drive brushless motor that is built right into the back wheels. Unlike other options on the market that are mounted underneath the board, you’ll get even better clearance here. A dial on the handheld itself controls speed and braking.

One of those extra safety features that we mentioned earlier is Exway’s automatic “smart breaking” function that will slow down riders in situations that are detected as perilous. Another area that Exway turned its focus to was a slightly larger deck design than you’ll find on competitors. At nine-inches, the goal is to help beginners feel more at home and less intimated.

The new X1 is available for purchase today direct from Exway with a price of $900. Initially there will just be the single color offering but look for more to come over time.
