AOC’s latest monitor has a textured gold plated design for your co-workers to look at

This morning AOC announced the latest addition to its ever-expanding lineup of monitors: a 27-inch curved 1080p display with one of the most unique designs that we’ve ever seen…on the back. That’s right, this gold-laden display packs more intrigue where users can’t see it. Here’s to hoping your putting this $200 monitor in a cubical and not up against a wall.

You’ll be giving up some features by opting for this more budget-focused monitor. While it does support HDMI input, there isn’t much else when it comes to I/O. But that’s a trade-off some are willing to make…

AOC’s latest features a curved panel with one of the slimmest bezels that we’ve seen, coming in at just 7.5mm. That makes it perfect for pairing multiple units together for an immersive curved viewing experience. Of course, anyone looking at this new display from AOC is going to have to be a fan of the primarily gold casing.

The 27-inch panel pushes out a 1920×1080 resolution and refreshes at 60Hz, which is a good baseline for specs on a monitor of this size. Ideally we would’ve liked to have seen this number closer to 1440p but that would’ve likely resulted in an increased price tag. Finding that balance can be a tricky one for manufacturers in the budget monitor game.

When it comes to inputs, there is something left to be desired here. AOC is only including a single HDMI 1.4 port, along with VGA. There’s no sign of USB-A, let alone USB-C on this display. Those looking for a new monitor that sports that type of connectivity will want to reach for Dell’s popular UltraSharp lineup that retails for roughly the same price.

AOC’s banking on that unique textured gold design to deliver sales on this monitor. Like we mentioned off the top, however, it’s a curious inclusion to only see the textured casing on the back. That’s the standout “feature” here and most won’t even be able to enjoy it.

If you work in an office with frequent passer-bys, longing for some extra attention, this may be the right monitor for you. Otherwise, we can’t really put the Toys seal approval on this purchase. Your money is likely better spent elsewhere, like the Dell alternatives we mentioned above, at nearly the same price point.

The newest monitor from AOC is available for purchase today from Amazon with a $200 price tag. It’s currently listed with a one-two month wait-time, but we expect to see that improve shortly.
