LEGO Ideas announces latest crowdfunded kit, the Tron Legacy Light Cycle

This past year has been one for the books in terms of noteworthy LEGO releases, with many of the most-desired sets coming from the crowd-funded Ideas program. And with 2017 coming to a close, it looks like LEGO still has some interesting mentions. Following this year’s second round of LEGO Ideas review, we’re getting a look at the latest set to hit store shelves; the Tron Legacy Light Cycle.

Fans of the 1980’s sci-fi series will instantly recognize the brick-built vehicle and its sleek black finish and translucent elements. After collecting the necessary 10,000 votes, the Light Cycle by BrickBros UK was sent to LEGO Ideas review to see whether it stacked up to join the ranks of other kits.

There’s no telling on when the Light Cycle will actually come to market. And while it won’t be available as the perfect gift for this holiday season, we can expect it to go for sale sometime in 2018. Pricing is up in the air as well, but based on the current model, I’d say it eventually retails for somewhere in the ballpark of $50. That’s of course subject to change, as the LEGO Ideas team alters each model before coming to consumers.

As of now the kit consists of the iconic Light Cycle itself, alongside a Sam Flynn minifigure complete with Tron suit, helmet and disc. The proposed set is more of a display model than one for you to get your hands on, so odds are high LEGO adds some additional minifigures, scenery builds or something else to spice up the play features.

Not all the sets to hit 10,000 supporters were as lucky, with several potential kits failing to receive the go-ahead. Among the list were the Medieval Watermill, Venetian Houses and more, several of which we’ve covered in the past. The Ideas team does note that it will be working with a few of the creators to bring other kits to market, leading us to believe that 2018 may be just as crazy a year for LEGO as this one.
