Alexa and other virtual assistant technology are certainly all the rage at CES 2018 this year. But we have also seen some interesting wearable technology, not the least of which is the Motiv fitness tracker ring and some of the intersting VR gear that has surfaced. In the midst of all the new product announcements, Coros Wearables is introducing its new Omni smart bike helmet at CES 2018 in a major way…

Luxury Book iPhone 7 Plus Case

The Coros Omni is just like any other bike helmet – designed to keep your head safe on the road in the case of accidents and falls – but with some interesting smart tech built-in. You’ll also find a pair of light strips on the rear of the helmet to make you more visible in low light conditions and the like. But most interesting of all is the bone-conduction audio system.

Having your ears completely covered with typical headphones while out on a ride can be dangerous, to say the least. Having environmental awareness is very important on the road and bone-conduction audio is a great way to stay sharp while still being able to enjoy your workout playlists.

Two small conduction transmitters are attached to the straps on the Omni helmet to directly blast audio into your head without blocking out your surroundings.

Taking audio playback, which can be controlled via a handlebar-mounted remote, and simple Bluetooth connection to your phone into consideration, you’ll get around 8 hours of usage. But the smartphone functionality doesn’t stop there, Omni can automatically alert your (preset) friends and family should you and your helmet get into an accident.

We will have to get a closer look at this to really get a good idea of how it works, but it sounds like a great safety feature, especially for lone, night riders.

The Coros Omni smart bike helmet will ship sometime “this quarter” with a $199.99 suggested retail price. However, if you want to jump in early, there are some early bird specials available on the Omni Indiegogo page. It will come in black, blue, red or white with a detachable visor and a travel bag.

You might also want to check out the previous gen Coros LINX smart bike helmet while you’re at it.

Stay locked to Toys as the week rolls on for all the best announcements from CES 2018.
