This past weekend, Microsoft and Bethesda kicked off Los Angeles’ highly anticipated E3 2018 event. Today Square-Enix has taken the stage, detailing some of its new releases as well as unveiling a slew of all-new titles. We’ve got the full scope of today’s announcements alongside trailers, preorders and more, which you’ll all find below.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider |
This year’s showcase event started with a thrilling new cinematic opening alongside gameplay footage. Shadow of the Tomb Raider introduces high-intensity cutscenes as well as some unique stealth combat and more. Director of the project Daniel Chayer-Bisson notes that the title’s setting and gameplay means you’ll quickly “become one with the jungle” as you explore.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is said to be the most indepth title in the series so far, with more tombs to explore than ever before and deadlier traps, foes and encounters to navigate. The game will be hitting consoles on September 14th.
Final Fantasy Online X Monster Hunter |
As an addition to the hit title Final Fantasy XIV Online, Square-Enix showcased its latest DLC, which would be joining the game with Monster Hunter World. Aside from a small trailer, not much else was shown. The release is slated for this summer, although an exact date was not specified.
DRAGON QUEST XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age |
The latest Dragon Quest title is officially on the way, with Echoes of an Elusive Age coming later this year on September 4th. The high fantasy adventure game got an all-new trailer which showcases the title’s characters and more. There’s still no gameplay footage or a look into the specifics of the game, but for fans of the series, this release looks like it’ll be a big hit.
Babylon’s Fall |
Square-Enix also debuted an all-new title in partnership with PlatinumGames that takes players into the medieval-themed world of Babylon’s Fall. Aside from the cinematic trailer they showed, not much has been released about the title other than it’ll be coming sometime in 2019. This is one I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on through the rest of the year and into next.
Just Cause 4 |
With the last title in the series coming out in 2014, Square-Enix showed off more about Just Cause 4. The open-world game packs the same action you’ve come to expect from its predecessors and brings all-new destruction physics, a new roster of vehicles alongside extreme weather hazards like tornadoes, lightning, sandstorms and more. Thanks to the new open-world apex engine, Square-Enix has been able to create its “largest and most breathtaking world” yet.
The Quiet Man |
The Quiet Man is another new title in the works, which delivers immersive story driven action. The game blends live action cutscenes with realistic CG and “pulse-pounding action gameplay” to create a unique new motion picture-like experience. Aside from the cinematic trailer, Square-Enix hasn’t unveiled too much, although it does note that there’s more info to come later in August.
Kingdom Hearts 3 |
As one of the most anticipated releases, during E3 we received a deeper look into what Square-Enix will be offering with its upcoming title, Kingdom Hearts 3. After being officially announced this weekend, we saw more gameplay footage of Sora teaming up with characters from Frozen, Wreck It Ralph, Tangled and more. The game is slated for an early 2019 release, with it launching on January 29th for both PS4 and Xbox One.
Be sure to keep it locked to 9to5Toys throughout E3 for more coverage from Sony, Nintendo, and others.
