While Westworld for iOS and Android appears to be a more full-blown mobile title, something along the lines of Fallout Shelter, Westworld: The Maze will be a sort of choose-your-own-adventure game. As expected, this is essentially a voice game played by giving out voice commands to Alexa, answering questions and more. But it sounds like the developers have added loads of player choice and lifted audio directly from the show in order to pump the immersion factor as high as possible here.
This marks the first time HBO has launched an Alexa Skill of this magnitude. Judging by the tone in the trailer, it looks like the company is taking this significantly more serious than the hilarious Skyrim Very Special Alexa Edition Bethesda showed off during its E3 2018 event. You’ll want to go check that trailer out if you haven’t yet.
The voice-controlled game will have players take on the role of a Westworld host through as many 60 different storylines with hundreds of branching paths by the sounds of it. You’ll hear the sounds of Sweetwater in the background as you interact (using your voice) with other characters in the world, slowly making your way through the game’s 3 stages. It features audio directly from the show and includes popular characters like Bernard and Clementine.
The whole thing only lasts about 30 minutes, but that’s if you’re good or don’t get killed before that. Your play-through could and might change every time you make your way through the game, depending on the choices you make.
Are you sure this game is meant for you? To find out, become a host and move through Westworld on 60 possible paths to consciousness, built from show sound effects, storylines and over 2 hours of unique gameplay.
To find the center of the maze, answer a series of questions across the levels: memory, improvisation, and self-interest. Make the right choices and you will find freedom. Lose, and well…the gods have their way of getting rid of you.
