Earlier this week we got another glimpse at what would be coming from Blizzard’s partnership with Hasbro and Nerf, and now another company is teasing the debut of its Overwatch releases. Today LEGO has jumped on the payload to get its line of brick-built kits moving.
Earlier today, LEGO launched a new Overwatch-themed landing page and who knew just 10 words could get fans so excited. So far the webpage is pretty barren and just prominently displays the Overwatch logo alongside text reading “Let’s get this moving! LEGO Overwatch – Coming Soon.” The newly-announced Overwatch page means big things down the road, but for now it’s just a glimpse into what’s in store.
Right now Overwatch is one of most popular properties out there right now. And following the end of its first competitive league season, LEGO looks to be getting in on the hype to excite fans ahead of the new kits’ release.
As of now the Overwatch-themed sets are still slated for a 2019 release, one that mirrors Nerf’s own plans. There’s no telling how many kits LEGO has in the works or which of Overwatch’s 28 heroes we’ll see recreated in brick-form. One thing that’s for sure is, these will most likely be some of LEGO’s eagerly set releases.
There are a few routes that LEGO may end up taking here. We could be getting a more classic style line of sets with minifigures and the like or a line of buildable figures similar to the Star Wars ones already on the market. I’d prefer the former and would love to see a payload-centered kit with a Reinhardt big-fig and a few different figures, but we’ll just have to wait until 2019 to see what LEGO has in store for us.
