Last week, Sony took to the official PlayStation blog to announce the brand’s 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro bundle. In celebration of having sold more than 520 million PlayStation consoles worldwide, the new bundle features a 2TB hard drive and a unique dark blue translucent design at a premium. Today, the company is talking PS VR sales numbers along with some new game release dates, deals and more.
Sony is writing today to thank its fans for all of the support it has shown the PlayStation Virtual Reality environment. Competition has been fierce in the early days of home VR gaming. Oculus and Samsung, among others all have interesting products in the marketplace, but Sony has managed to put up some decent sales numbers anyway.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially moved over 3 million PlayStation VR systems worldwide. And along with the actual headsets, that comes out to around 21.9 million VR games sold. While these are not the kind of numbers we are necessarily used to from Sony consoles, these are decent sales for a VR headset with a serious amount of competition out there.
To commemorate the sales milestone, Sony has decided to drop some official release dates for a couple upcoming VR games. First up is Creed: Rise to Glory. The VR boxing experience from developer Survios will put players in the shoes of Adonis Creed come September 25th. Pre-orders are now live.
Next up is Evasion, which is hitting on October 9th. The first-person sci-fi shooter tasks players with saving an “embattled human colony” via one of 4 hero classes. Pre-orders are also live on this one starting today.
Speaking of which, Sony has now kicked off a Totally Digital Sale on PSN offering loads of notable deals on VR games at up to 60% off. These include some early 20% off pre-order options on new titles like Bow to Blood and Torn, among many others.
Sony also took the time to thank some of its developers on the VR side of things. While there aren’t many surprises here with first party, Bethesda and Capcom titles topping the list, here are the top ten most-played games on PS VR according to Sony:
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR
- PlayStation VR Worlds
- Rec Room
- Resident Evil 7 biohazard
- The Playroom VR
- Job Simulator
- Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
- Batman: Arkham VR
- Farpoint
- Superhot VR
