Heading to the gym everyday can be a burden, not to mention the cost associated with going to classes and the like. Over the last year, we’ve seen a resurgence of at-home fitness equipment as new and innovative products like Peloton have hit the market. The ability to enjoy class-style workouts without leaving your home certainly has appeal.
A new at-home workout system is following that model with one of the more intriguing designs we’ve seen in recent memory. The new Tonal Home, a wall-mounted workout machine, looks like a modern piece of technology but easily transforms into a weight-resistance training system. Oh, and that immersive display is pretty sick too.
From the outset, it’s easy to see why Tonal is different from the usual workout equipment that we’ve seen over the years. Instead of a bulky machine, Tonal is, well, toned down to just a sleek wall-mounted panel that hardly looks out of place amongst modern electronics found in many homes.
Most of the panel is covered in a glass display that relays pertinent information about your workouts. While Tonal doesn’t offer live streaming classes like Peloton, it does have a virtual trainer that provides training during exercise. This system cashes in on the popular trends mentioned above, where users can pull up any type of exercise at the drop of a hat versus being limited to whatever classes are being taught at the gym.
As for the actual weights themselves, Tonal uses a unique resistance-focused system that allows it to depart from those bulky systems typically found in most homes. After an initial on-screen test, Tonal is able to set up workouts based on your abilities and goals. It can provide up to 200-pounds of resistance while automatically cataloging any activity and your gains over time.
Tonal was born out of the same design studio that was behind recent releases from Brita, Fitbit, Nest and Chromecast. Despite its sleek design, it will take a quite a bit of room on your wall. But in comparison to traditional systems it’s a nice alternative. That is, if you’re willing to pay.
The entry-level Tonal system starts at just under $3,000 with add-ons such as the $500 extension kit to unlock all 200 exercises. A $250 fee is required for install, as well. Tonal Home is available for purchase today.
