While last month’s release schedule was somewhat underwhelming outside of the yearly Madden release, this month we are seriously getting back on track. One of the most long-awaited JRPGs is finally here in Dragon Quest XI, the latest Tomb Raider game is on the way and Insomniac’s take on Spider-Man will release this week! All that and more is down below as part of September’s best console game releases.
Dragon Quest XI PC/PS4 Sept 4th
It has been a long time since we got a main line, single-player Dragon Quest game, but it is now here. Many of the dedicated fans of the series have been waiting far too long for this one, but it looks like the wait was worth it. The eleventh main entry in the franchise released on the 4th and has already garnered critical praise. If you love Dragon Quest, get Dragon Quest XI right now, but I’d suggest anyone interested in fantasy JRPGs with turn-based combat give this one a closer look as well.
While it is the eleventh mainline entry in the critically acclaimed series, DRAGON QUEST XI is a completely standalone experience that features entirely new characters, a beautifully detailed world, finely tuned strategic combat, and an immersive story that will appeal to long-time fans and franchise newcomers alike.

Spider-Man PS4 Sept 7th
Spider-Man is clearly one of the most anticipated releases of the month. All the footage we have seen of the new web-slinger looks fantastic and we couldn’t be more excited for this one. Hopefully Spidey can make a return to the gaming world the way Batman did with the Arkham series. The open-world New York City, story set pieces and boss battles are already being praised in early reviews. Judging by the Metacritic numbers, this one turned out about as good as you could have hoped.

Nintendo Labo: Vehicle Kit Switch Sept 14th
Nintendo’s latest Toy Con kit is set for release on the 14th. While there are loads of interesting STEM possibilities with this one, it’s the Mario Kart integration that has us most excited. Earlier this year, The big N brought Labo support to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch and it’s also getting it for the new Vehicle Kit as well. That means the Toy-Con Car, Pedal, and Key from the kit can all be used to control your favorite racers in Mario Kart as soon as the free update is installed. You can find the complete details on the Vehicle Kit right here and even more information on the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe integration right here.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider PS4/X1/PC Sept 14th
Shadow of the Tomb Raider hits on September 14th this month. This looks as though it could be the end of the rebooted trilogy that began back in 2013 and is a direct sequel to Rise of the Tomb Raider. The team has focused on bringing a living, breathing main hub city that is 3-times the size of Rise’s, along with loads of vertical gameplay with the rappel mechanics. Clearly anyone who liked the previous outings is in for a treat with this one.

This month we are also getting a pair of yearly sports mainstays with NBA 2K19 on the 11th and FIFA 19 on September 28th for PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Switch. Fortunately both of which are a part of Amazon’s new $10 Prime member program. That means you’ll receive a $10 credit providing you purchase the game ahead of release.
