Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 highlight the best console game releases for October. After what feels like an eternity since the release of the original RDR, Rockstar is finally ready to unleash the sequel into the wild. Ubisoft is taking us to ancient Greece with this year’s Assassin’s Creed Game. And Call of Duty is set to take on the battle royale space in Black Ops 4. It is going to be a busy holiday gaming season and it all starts now. Head below for all of our top picks coming this month.
Forza Horizon 4 Xbox One/PC Oct. 2nd
While it may not have been mentioned in the intro bit above, Forza Horizon 4 is certainly one of the best console game releases for October and will probably be the best racing game we’ll see all year. It features dynamic seasons, a shared open-world and as many as 450 different vehicles to store in your virtual garage. The Forza Horizon games almost never disappoint and this year’s edition is no different. It is already one of the highest reviewed games of the year.

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey PC, PS4, Xbox One Oct. 5th
Ubisoft is taking gamers back to ancient Greece in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. Set for release this Friday, early game previews for AC Odyssey have been gushing over the much deeper RPG systems and gorgeous open-world. While some have said it gets off to a slow start, this is most definitely a full-on RPG whether you like it or not. So be sure to give it a chance to open up after Ubisoft sets up the story for you off the top.
Just about every element of the Origins formula has been expanded upon from the new combat system to loads of player choice through branching dialogue paths and more. Plus, how can an Assassin’s Creed game that follows the battle between Spartans and Athenians not make our list?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 PC, PS4, Xbox One Oct. 12th
This year’s entry in the Call of Duty franchise is shaping up to be a good one. It is certainly disappointing that Activision has ditched the single player campaign. But expanded zombie modes and the brand new Blackout battle royale mode will hopefully suffice. It’s hard to imagine anyone knocking Fortnite off its perch right now, but with such a dedicated following and the pedigree over at Treyarch, if anyone can do it, it’s COD

Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4, Xbox One Oct. 26h
If there’s any doubt out about which of this month’s games I’m most excited for, it’s this one. This is not one of the best console game releases for October, it is the best. While I generally sway towards stealth experiences, Assassin’s Creed has mostly ditched that these days putting RDR 2 right at the top of my list. Early previews have literally been blowing me away with the player choice and the dynamic nature of the game world.
We got what will likely be the last full gameplay trailer before the game’s launch last week (seen above). And we got a closer look at side activities, the new Dead Eye system, bank robberies and much more.
