Pre-orders are now live on the new Hyrule Edition Nintendo Switch Lite ahead of the September 26 release date. The special edition portable Switch handheld console made its worldwide debut back in June alongside the new Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom that is set for release on the same day. Pre-orders for both the new Zelda game and the shiny new Switch Lite edition are now at the ready via retailers like Best Buy and we suspect the console might not be around for very long.
New Hyrule Edition Nintendo Switch Lite pre-orders now live
The new Hyrule Edition Nintendo Switch Lite carries a $209.99 shipped MSRP – a $10 up-charge from the standard Nintendo Switch Lite. It does not include a copy of Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, but you’re not just paying an extra $10 for the paint job here. It also comes with a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack individual membership that would normally run you $50 – you’re effectively saving $40 here.
Perhaps it would have been nice if Nintendo included a copy of the new Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom with the console. But that’s not something we typically see when it comes to big ticket, first-party games ahead of release, and there is, at least, some savings to be had for folks that might not have a Switch Online membership already setup well into the future.
And while new Nintendo special edition handheld is functionally identical to the standard model – same form-factor, same controls, plays all the same games, and so on, it does feature a shiny golden treatment with black accents across the face buttons, thumbsticks, shoulder triggers, D-Pad, and elsewhere. You’ll also find a Hylian crest adorning the backside of the unit and a small Triforce decal just below the right thumbstick.
The Nintendo Switch Lite Hyrule Edition made its first appearance during Nintendo’s absolutely epic summer Direct showcase – an event the debuted the likes of the new Zelda game, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. I’m expecting some seriously epic special hardware releases for Metroid Prime 4 come early next year Nintendo.
