Nintendo officially announces upcoming Mario Kart World Direct, and an insanely expensive price tag for the game

Just after giving us a complete look at the new Switch 2, the official price, and when preorders will start, Nintendo has also now officially unveiled the Mario Kart World. The game will be available as part of an optional console bundle when preorders start next week, but there is also an upcoming dedicated Direct presentation for the game and a price some folks might not be happy with.

Mario Kart World

The new Mario Kart experience looks like a wild one, heavily inspired by what has made the game so iconic over the years while also implementing a new, almost open-world aspect to the experience:

Put the pedal to the metal in Mario Kart World, a brand-new experience set in a vast interconnected environment. Race seamlessly across connected courses that deliver Mario Kart racing like never before. Twenty-four drivers can compete in a race. Participate in the new Knockout Tour mode, where you’ll barrel through back-to-back courses and checkpoints, with no pit stops along the way. If a player doesn’t make it to each checkpoint at a high-enough placement, they will be eliminated. And in Free Roam, it’s possible to go off the racetrack and drive in any direction you wish, explore areas that pique your interest and take some photos at scenic spots with a group of friends.

In Mario Kart World, players will “race seamlessly across connected roads and racetracks that deliver Mario Kart racing like never before.” There’s a new Knockout Tour mode, “where you’ll barrel through back-to-back courses with no pit stops along the way.,” alongside Free Roam mode – “it’s possible to go off the racetrack and drive in any direction you wish, explore areas that pique your interest and take some photos at scenic spots with a group of friends.”

You can scope out the new trailer for the game that Nintendo debuted today below:

Barrel through back-to-back courses, with no pit stops along the way. If you don’t place high enough by the time you reach each of the five checkpoints… you’re OUT. Drive hard to survive and aim for first place!

Nintendo will be hosting a dedicated Direct presentation for Mario Kart World on April 17 at 06:00 PST / 09:00 EST.

But ummm, clearly Nintendo really wants folks to buy the $499.99 Mario Kart World Switch 2 bundle because as of right now the game has a $79.99 MSRP!!
