In a disappointing but unfortunately not surprising turn of events, reports are surfacing today suggesting Nintendo will officially be delaying the Switch 2 pre-order date in response to Trump tariffs. Nooooooo!
Nintendo delays Switch 2 pre-orders
Just after this week’s highly-anticipated Switch 2 Direct showcase, Nintendo officially announced the $450 starting price of Switch 2 and that it would be going up for pre-order across the U.S on April 9 ahead of the June 5, 2025 release date.
But all of that is now changing, as Nintendo has issued an official statement saying that pre-orders will not start on April 9, 2025 to give it time to assess the potential impacts of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration earlier this week.
Nintendo said it would update the timing on pre-orders at a later date.
The good news here is that the June 5 release remains firm, at least for now.
Shortly after Nintendo officially announced the $450 price of its new next-generation console a couple days ago, Trump officially announced tariff updates on a over 20 different countries, some of which are hitting the regions where Nintendo actually manufactures Switch 2 – Vietnam, a place where Nintendo has been reported to be making Switch 2 (at least in part), is getting hit with a 46% tariff.
Does this mean Switch 2 is going to get even more expensive than it already is? Mario Kart World is releasing at a whopping $80 already and $450 puts the Switch 2 as the most expensive Nintendo console in history.

- Switch console and game pre-order listings are now up at Walmart as well – The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition has a $79.99 list price.
Pre-orders made before 8 am local time on June 4, or while supplies last, will be eligible for free delivery of their console by 9 am local time* on June 5!
