Update 5/2: After Walmart’s Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch 2 Mario Kart World listings disappeared, they are now back and officially marked as coming back in-stock for launch day on June 5:
As I’m sure you know by now, Nintendo finally kicked off pre-orders for Switch 2 in the U.S. and Canada last week – they sold out almost immediately. Some folks were lucky and some folks weren’t on April 24, but just as our sources confirmed, there was a short but very sweet Switch 2 pre-order re-stock at Walmart this past weekend and some folks confirmed to have actually scored one over 48 hours after the internet reported they were entirely sold out. While we may or may not see another pre-order re-stock before launch, there is some light at the end of the warp pipe.
As of right now, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and GameStop are now completely out of stock. While we are still holding out that Walmart and Game Stop might be able to pull a few units out of a hat at some point this week, it’s not looking good.
At the time of writing, the Walmart listings for the Nintendo Switch 2 Console and the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle are not just listed as out of stock, but the previous URLs for these listings are returning a “We couldn’t find this page” error. That’s not a great sign, as previous to the restock this past Saturday, the retailer was still serving up an actual “out of stock” listing page.
Okay so where does this leave us in terms of actually being able to pre-order a Switch 2? Well, just about nowhere. As of right now we are going to have to get wildly lucky seeing any more stock go live at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and GameStop, and it remains unclear if retailers like Sam’s Club and Newegg are indeed going to have pre-sale stock – they both have listings up, but there is no way to know for sure whether or not they are just readying for launch day in early June.
This however, does lead us to some good news on Switch 2 though. While you might not get a chance to pre-order one before launch day, that doesn’t nessarily mean there won’t any units to buy on launch day come June 5.
In fact, we know for sure there will be at least some stock ready on June 5, and perhaps a whole lot more than that.

Head over to the U.S. Costco site right now and you’ll be greeted with an official Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle listing. It is not live yet, but it specifically says it will be available for purchase on June 5, 2025 – “this product is expected to be in stock and available for purchase soon. Check back again later.” We don’t have an exact time for when it will go live that day, but if you are looking towards Costco on launch day, I’d be ready the second the clock strikes midnight on the east coast just in case.
Best Buy and Target’s listing are both out of stock with no mention of whether or not they will have a re-stock for launch day just yet.
Our bet is that the big four will indeed have limited stock available on June 5 though.
In a recent Bloomberg report, the outlet reiterates earlier forecasts that had Nintendo able to manufacture and deliver between 6 million and 8 million units in time for Switch 2’s launch in June. While there’s no way to know for sure exactly how much of that stock has already been sold, one would have to think that Nintendo is putting in some serious overtime right now to ensure you can actually buy its new console on the day it said it would hit store shelves. It will likely be just as difficult to get one then as it was last week, but you might still be playing your new Switch 2 within the first week (or sooner) of the launch day even if you didn’t get a chance to pre-order one.
