Nintendo has finally gone official with long-awaited and much anticipated July Nintendo Direct. The livestream will mark the first proper Direct since Switch 2 launched, outside of the dedicated shows we have already got for the system’s two biggest launch titles, but we can’t help but be mildly skeptical/disappointed with what we know so far regarding tomorrow’s show – it is a Partner showcase after all.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely stoked with all of the third-party support Nintendo has garnered with Switch 2 thus far. The more the merrier if you ask me, but it’s going to be mildly disappointing if the only thing we get for the entire Direct – more or less the first one of the Switch 2 generation – are a bunch of third-party ports already out on other platforms that come with a code in the box for $60, or $70, or $80. And it very much seems like that will be the case.
That said, there are plenty of gamers that only have a Switch 2 at this point and some big third-party release dates or just announcements could be exciting. There are loads of rumored and likely AAA experiences that have yet to get an official Switch 2 confirmation and considering this is a Partner Direct showcase, now would be the time to do it.
Here’s a look at the biggest titles we have already heard rumors on, some that have been hinted at by the developers and publishers themselves, and some that have been making the rounds in leaks for months now:
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Microsoft Flight Simulator
- Halo: The Master Chief Collection
- Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Assassin’s Creed Mirage
- Metaphor: ReFantazio
- Death Stranding: Director’s Cut
- Diablo 4
- Fallout 4
- Starfield
- One or more of The Division games
- Rainbow Six Siege
- Sea of Thieves
- Ori and the Will of the Wisps
- Ori and the Blind Forest
As you can see all of the major third-party publishers already rumored to be onboard are represented here, but many also feel we might see Red Dead Redemption 2 make an appearance at the show tomorrow as well, and perhaps even some release dates for tiles we already know about including Elden Ring Tarnished Edition and the FF VI remake too.
Okay so, this all sounds mostly great right? What’s so disappointing then?
Well it’s that “Partner Showcase” wording in the key art for the livestream and the fact that Nintendo specifically stated we are in for “roughly 25 minutes of information on upcoming…games from our publishing partners.”

After all the rumors, and all the leaks, and all of the expectations and anticipation for the big summer Nintendo Direct, we are still going to have to wait for any news on the big Nintendo games. No Mario, no Zelda, no release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, or Kirby Air Riders?
And what about that seemingly reliable and quite believable leak that a new Animal Crossing game for Nintendo Switch 2 would end the show?
I guess all, some, or none of that might still happen, but it isn’t likely at this point. Nintendo could still pop in the super quick teaser for Animal Crossing at the end of the show, but it’s not particularly Nintendo’s style to announce a partner showcase and then cap the show off with a first-party title really.
Disappointing is perhaps not the right word – there will after all likely be a ton of cool titles added to the Switch 2 roster by show’s end, but there’s just nothing like a big Direct capped off with a new headliner Nintendo game is there?
