Nintendo has recently issued an official statement via one of its Japanese X account warning users of potential Switch 2 overheating and crashing issues with summer temperatures expected to hit all-time highs in select regions.
Back in early July when temperatures started to really heat up across the country, user reports began surfacing regarding Switch 2 consoles overheating and crashing. At the time, and right up until now, this seems to be have mostly been an intermittent issue happening to folks with Switch 2 consoles in particularly sweltering conditions.
Some folks thought it might have something to do with overworking the console while downloading files in the background, others only experienced the issue while in docked mode, but there really was no direct fix or overly helpful response from Nintendo’s support pages at the time.
This, and Nintendo’s recent official statement, is really more of reminder for folks and a follow up to our reports from over a month ago regarding similar issues surfacing stateside. Switch 2 does not like to be in temperatures hotter than 35-degrees C/95-degrees F, and you probably shouldn’t be playing it or storing it in conditions approaching these sorts of temperatures.
Here’s what Nintendo recently posted via its official customer service account in Japan (translated via IGN):
Recently, temperatures have been exceeding 35°C…Please be cautious when using it outdoors.
When using a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 in a high-temperature environment, the device’s temperature may rise…This could potentially cause malfunctions, so please use it in a location between 5–35°C.
Again, this really shouldn’t come as much surprise to most – just about all tech products do not tend to fare well in exceedingly hot conditions – but it is a good reminder to play safe out there if you’re taking your Switch 2 on the road in the final days of summer or when sitting in direct sunlight.
