A recent leak has surfaced claiming to have insider details on an upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Collection for Switch 2. Nintendo is allegedly readying the new collection to lineup with Mario’s big 40th anniversary in early 2026.
Just when it felt like the Nintendo rumor might start to slow down, the Direct everyone seemed to think we were getting last month turned out to be a Partner Showcase loaded with third-party titles. Nintendo has now officially announced a new IndieWorld showcase for later this week, that will probably disappoint the HollowKnight Silksong followers once again (hopefully not though), and there’s still new details on that proper Nintendo Direct in sight at this point.
So I guess next up for the rumor mill is the Mario 40th anniversary right? Right.
Now, this particular rumors doesn’t exactly come from a source with a rock solid track record, but there is some validity to the claims of an upcoming Super Mario Bros. Collection for Switch 2. Mario’s 40th birthday is on the horizon for March 2026 and Nintendo did release a similar Mario collection for the world famous plumber’s 35th celebration (Super Mario 3D All-Stars).

This might just be one of those fake leaks that actually comes true (to some degree).
All of that said, a post over on Reddit (of course) is claiming that a “user called John Skinny, of Neogaf and Discord notoriety” is claiming to have seen internal documents and “and partial localization assets via a contractor QA team” pointing to the upcoming, and very alleged New Super Mario Bros. Collection.
This collection apparently collates the following titles:
- New Super Mario Bros. (DS)
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii
- New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS)
Do we think this leak is real? Not particularly, but you never know. However, the fact that 40th anniversary files were already spotted on the eShop previously, along with the previous 35th anniversary release, makes us think a new Mario collection for his big 40th hoorah might actually happen even if this is totally fake.
