While it seemed like we were going to have to wait until the usual September slot for the next big Nintendo Direct, today is the day folks. After seeing two Nintendo livestream presentations in as many weeks with IndieWorld and the Partner Showcase, Nintendo did not make us wait all that long for its next big presentation, and this time it’s all about Kirby Air Riders.
Kirby Air Riders Nintendo Direct
The original Kirby Air Ride released way back on the GameCube in 2003, and quickly garnered somewhat of a cult following. The series has been largely dormant since then, and frankly I don’t think anyone thought it was going to be coming back any time soon until Nintendo surprised us with a reveal trailer for AirRiders while it was launching the Switch 2 earlier this year.
Helmed by Masahiro Sakurai of Super Smash Bros. fame, the new Kirby Air Riders is going to be directly taking on another pretty big Nintendo mascot racer you might have heard of (or purchased alongside your Switch 2 console) – Mario Kart World.
While the dedicated Mario Kart World Direct was somewhat underwhelming for folks who had been following the game up until that point – Nintendo just didn’t have all that much to show off we didn’t already know about, that’s not really the case with Air Riders as we haven’t really seen anything from the game outside of the initial reveal trailer. And considering it has been over two decades since the last one released, there might be a whole lot going on with the new Switch 2 sequel, even for fans of the original.
Today’s Direct showcase should be a substantial one with 45-minutes specifically dedicated to the new Kirby racing game and it all starts this morning at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET.
Alongside a complete rundown of the gameplay, we are expecting a presentation akin to the Donkey Kong Bananza Direct, just with some face time for Sakurai and, hopefully, the 2025 Switch 2 release date we are hoping for.
Join us on Aug 19 at 6 a.m. PT for a Kirby Air Riders Direct with director Mr. Sakurai. The livestreamed presentation will last roughly 45 minutes and provide an in-depth look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game.
