The brand new mainline Gen Pokémon Nintendo Switch 2 games have been officially revealed. As one would expect and just about everyone hoped for, the new Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves headlined this morning’s Pokémon Presents showcase and really finished the show off with a bang. We have already featured the reveal of the two games, but a series of additional details have emerged since then, so let’s dive in!
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves
The new Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are, of course, developed by long-time (forever) pocket monster studio, GAME FREAK. The games are being developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 consoles.
Winds and Waves will be taking players into an open world to explore the “beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves” where Pokémon have developed their own unique ecosystems in “this region’s lush environment.”
During this adventure, you’ll team up with all kinds of Pokémon to overcome both the difficult road ahead and even the forces of nature that block your path at times.

According to the official Pokémon site, your main character will be able to sport different outfits depending on which version of the game you play – Winds or Waves.

Pokémon Winds and Waves starter Pokémon
We got our first look at new three new starter Pokémon from Winds and Waves in this morning’s first look trailer as well.
Players will have the choice to partner up with a grass type known as Browt – a “lively but clumsy Bean Chick Pokémon” – or a “guileless and friendly” fire type Puppy Pokémon known as Pombon. And lastly, we have a Water type known as Gecqua – an intelligent Water Gecko Pokémon.

Two new Pikachu types
At the beginning of the trailer during a special cinematic, before we got into the actual game, we got a look at a pair of special new Pikachu, aptly dressed for the game’s new tropical setting. We now know these two adorable vacationers are known as Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, but that’s about all we know for now.
The trailer also showed off a pair of special Pikachu with a brand-new look. We’ll have to wait a bit longer to learn how Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu will be involved in the adventure.
Beyond that, The Pokémon Company has announced that Winds and Waves will be the first Pokémon games to support Brazilian Portuguese “as a language players can choose. Now, even more fans around the world will be able to play this new adventure in their native language!”
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are set for a global simultaneous release in 2027 and you can scope out the official first look trailer below:
