Mario Day 2026 is next week – What to expect, FREE $5 store credits confirmed, new game releases and hardware?

Mario Day 2026 is quickly approaching and while we are still awaiting official plans from Nintendo on this year’s celebration, we do have an idea of what to expect and we now have some details on what GameStop is cooking up. And what GameStop is cooking up is a giant Mario costume party, a chance to score a FREE Nintendo Switch 2, and FREE $5 store credits for everyone.

Mario Day 2026

Mario Day (or MAR10) is an annual celebration that takes place on March 10 to honor the world’s most famous plumber and the cast of colorful cohorts that have accompanied him on his adventures all these years.

Mario Day typically culminates in some fun activities, new game releases, sometimes even a special console bundle deal, new hardware, and things of this nature. In years past we saw new Mario LEGO sets, the announcement of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, classic Mario releases for Switch Online, and more.

Last year we got a new Nintendo Switch – OLED Model + Super Mario Bros. Wonder that delivered $70 in overall savings. On top of that Nintendo had a bunch of physical games on sale like Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Super Mario RPG, Princess Peach: Showtime! and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD all down at $40 via various major retailers.

There was a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Community Challenge Event, and Epic SUPER NINTENDO WORLD Sweepstakes, loads of game deals on the eShop, and it even had Mario and Lugi and friends painted on the side of an actual JetBlue Aircraft

What will Nintendo announce for Mario Day 2026?

Well, we don’t know yet, but we do know it made its official Mario Day plans public on March 4, exactly 6 days before the 10th of March, so we might very well get all of the news as early as tomorrow at this point.

What is happening for Mario Day this year?

The 2026 Mario Day celebration is still up in the air. The only concrete news we have at this point comes from a GameStop representative that told us about the retailer’s upcoming plans.

GameStop wants to break the world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Mario. It is inviting everyone to dress up like the world famous plumber – overalls, mustaches, and power-ups are apparently strongly recommended here – to come gather on Tuesday, March 10 from 4 to 8 p.m at its 32 E 14th St. NYC store. It tells us it will have everyone assemble for an “an official count, group photo, prizes, and a full Mario takeover of the store.”

One lucky Mario costume wearer will get “a free Nintendo Switch 2” and apparently everyon in a costume will “will receive $5 bonus store credit just for showing up.”
