We are taking quick break from the now live Amazon 2026 Big Spring Sale to discuss some Switch news. In a world rife with tariffs, or at least the aftermath of them, and with the cost of gaming skyrocketing in recent years, Nintendo might have just announced that is bringing the cost of new Switch 2 games down…sort of.
In a new post on its official news feed today, Nintendo announced that pre-orders are now live for the all-new Yoshi and the Mysterious Book – a new Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive that we recently found out would officially release on May 21, 2026.
The more interesting part of this is the price. Nintendo has announced that new “Nintendo published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 will have a different MSRP than the physical releases.”
It does not specifically state that digital games will have a lower price tag, but one can only assume, and the new Yoshi and the Mysterious Book just went up for pre-order with a $70 physical list price and a $60 list price on the eShop.
It, perhaps, only makes sense that digital titles should cost less, but Nintendo certainly didn’t have to do this. Whether it is just giving gamers a bit of a break or looking to circumvent sales coming from other retailers is unclear – Best Buy and Amazon, for example sells digital titles too. But we are nonetheless going to be paying less for the new Yoshi game in digital form and perhaps future Switch 2 digital releases as well.
Nintendo games offer the same experiences whether in packaged or digital format, and this change simply reflects the different costs associated with producing and distributing each format and offers players more choice in how they can buy and play Nintendo games.
As always, retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games, and pricing for each title may vary.
