Insider leaks Zelda Ocarina of Time Switch 2 console and upcoming big-budget remake

While the leaks and rumors regarding upcoming Nintendo plans have slowed to some degree compared to last year’s Switch 2 launch cycle, there have been some seriously exciting tidbits floating around as of late. Not the least of which, some fairly high-profile Nintendo Insiders have already claimed we are in for a complete remake of one of the most celebrated Nintendo titles of all-time: The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. And now it looks as though there’s good reason to believe there will also be a special edition Zelda Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Console.

Over the last week or so, some prominent Nintendo leakers circulated details regarding a couple of major upcoming Switch 2 releases.

Nintendo confirmed Fox McCloud of Star Fox fame is in the new Super Mario Galaxy Movie and leakers suggested a new Star Fox Switch 2 game could launch as soon as this summer.

But the far more exciting rumor, at least for me, is what sounds like a complete remake of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (this rumor seems to have come from NateTheHate, a Nintendo YouTuber of sorts with a solid track record for these sorts of things).

The original leak and some subsequent follow up details have surfaced suggesting the game has quite a sizable budget and might very well be a complete ground-up overhaul, as opposed to just some kind of up-res Switch 2 remaster like the HD 3DS port of the game we got years ago.

These additional details seem to source from Shpeshal Nick, another Nintendo leaker with a decent track record, who also thinks there will be a special (and likely very limited) edition Zelda Ocarina of Time Nintendo Switch 2 console.

If all of this is true, it sounds as though the actual remake is scheduled to hit in the latter half of the year and potentially be the big Switch 2 holiday release with the console landing ahead of time and potentially as soon as this summer.

We, of course, can’t corroborate any of this officially, but we have also been hearing rumblings of a major Zelda remake in the works as well.

And considering we are talking about one of the biggest Nintendo games in history, or least one of the most beloved, not to mention it potentially being the year’s big Switch 2 holiday release, it stands to reason Nintendo might want to double down with a special edition console of some kind as well.

This certainly wouldn’t be the first time Nintendo has adorned its gaming hardware with Hylian iconography either. There have been loads of social edition Zelda hardware, from the Wind Waker HD Wii U and the OLED Tears of the Kingdom Switch right through to 2024’s Hyrule Edition Switch Lite.

So that means the The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake will come bundled with the rumored special edition console right? Well, no, of course not, Nintendo would never do that would it? We don’t know for sure, but word on the street is that you’ll need to purchase both separately, and hopefully not on eBay where the console will cost $1,000+ after it inevitably sells out on day one.

I am personally waiting on a Link to The Past remake – that is the one that really hit home for me and released during a formidable era in my early gaming life – but Ocarina of Time will. More than suffice for the 40th Zelda anniversary if you ask me.
