Much like we have seen for years with these crossover real-estate tycoon boards, this one shakes up the usual formula with a series of themed rules, pieces, and features based on Mario’s latest adventure through the stars.
Whether you’re looking to take over the Galaxy with friends and the family or just to add to your Nintendo collection, the new Monopoly The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Board Game is now available for purchase at Amazon for $24.75 with free shipping for Prime members or in orders over $35.
Featuring “characters, places, and artwork from the movie,” this version trades the Monopoly guy and the classic Tokens out for Mario and “6 colorful, sculpted plastic Monopoly tokens – Mario’s hat, Luigi’s hat, a Luma, a Yoshi egg, Princess Peach’s umbrella, and Toad’s headlamp.” Hasbro should sell these special edition Tokens separately if you ask me.
The formula is otherwise mostly the same as the classic but there are some fun wrinkles here from the various themed locations (Fossil Falls, Comet Observatory, and other galaxies) to the Bowser Jr. token – if it lands on your spot, you’ll have to battle him – and more:
When a player lands on or passes GO, they collect a Luma by taking a Luma chip (it’s worth coins!). Travel through the Gateway Galaxy and into the world of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! In the Monopoly: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Edition game, players buy up locations from the film as they traverse the galaxy and collect Lumas along the way. But watch out for Bowser Jr.! If he passes a player on their journey, it’s battle time! Earn coins by collecting Lumas, collecting rent from other players, and more. The player with the most coins at the end of the game wins!
