Nintendo just announced a surprise Star Fox Nintendo Direct and it is set to start any minute now!

Update: The new Star Fox Switch 2 is officially set for release on June 25, 2026.

  • Updated visuals and stage design
  • New cutscenes have been added from the original N64 experience
  • Challenge mode
  • Battle mode 4v4 dogfights
  • Private online matches
  • Game Share support for up to 4 players
  • Split pilot and gunner duties in co-op
  • New Star Fox game for Switch 2 supports N64 controllers

The Star Fox Direct will begin at 3pm PT on May 6, 2026. The presentation will be roughly 15 minutes.

The rumors were true folks, and the leaks were right on point. We can only assume this is almost certainly be new Star Fox Switch 2 that was leaked a few weeks ago now.

Miyamoto just popped onto the official Nintendo of America X account to announce the following:

This is Miyamoto. In just a moment, at 3pm PT, we will livestream Star Fox Direct 5.6.2026. The presentation runs for approximately 15 minutes, and I would be delighted if you could take a look.

Nintendo does not typically just pop out of nowhere with event announcements like this a few minutes before they go live – one can only assume this is in direct response to the leaky warp pipe problem at Nintendo HQ right now. The Mario maker typically gives us at least a day’s notice before major Direct events like this, but not this time.
