We are quickly approaching the 1-year anniversary of the Nintendo Classics GameCube library on Switch 2. While have had a relatively steady stream of titles added since then, it has been two months since Nintendo delivered a new title to the service and it’s time to check in on all of the confirmed titles and what the next Game Cube game will be.
When Nintendo first unveiled the Switch 2 Game Cube library it delivered three titles and showed off a host of others that were to be expected over time. Since then it has mostly delivered on that promise having now released all but two of the games mentioned in that debut trailer.
More specifically, and after it finally unleashed Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness back in mid March, the only two titles Nintendo initially promised that haven’t arrived yet are Pokémon Colosseum and Super Mario Sunshine.
One would have expected that both Gale of Darkness and Colosseum would have landed as part of the Pokémon Day and 30th anniversary celebrations over the last couple months, so it’s really anyone’s guess on what’s going on with Colosseum – perhaps Nintendo is waiting on the Gen 10 titles or some other special event tied to another pocket monster release.
But with the sun starting to shine even brighter and hotter as we approach summer 2026, it would seem a perfect time to unleash the previously promised Mario Sunshine. Many folks presumed this one would hit last summer, and Nintendo seemingly has a giant Mario sized hole in its Switch 2 catalogue with leaks suggesting we will not be getting a new game until 2027.
But perhaps the best guess here would be surrounding the recent (and not so) surprising reveal of the (sort of) new Star Fox for Switch 2. That one is set for release come the end of June and with some folks expecting the next Game Cube release to potentially land before that, Nintendo might want to actually surprise us with a new Star Fox GameCube release to create some hype ahead of release.
There were two Star Fox games for Game Cube – Star Fox Assault and Star Fox Adventures, the latter of which was specifically on display during the recent Star Fox Direct. There was no mention of an upcoming release, but it would seem timely and perhaps even more so than Mario Sunshine, which would also make sense later this summer.
