It was starting to seem like we might not get a reveal until Summer Game Fest, but it is that time of year and Activision has now officially revealed this year’s Call of Duty release, and it is also releasing on Switch 2.
Activision and developer Infinity Ward have now officially revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 ahead of release this fall. Expect “trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, high-octane chases through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and city-wide assaults to reclaim occupied territory.”
The game is set for release on October 23, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC – it will not, however, be available for previous-generation consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, for the first time since 2013.
But perhaps even more notable than that, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is landing on Switch 2 – the COD for the system after Microsoft inked a deal with Nintendo as part of the Activision Blizzard acquisition. It sounds as though it might release on Switch 2 the same day, but Nintendo is saying we will get more information later this summer.
Pre-orders are now live for the PS5 and Xbox version, but the Switch 2 edition remains elusive at the time of writing.
Here’s the official reveal trailer – “No line holds forever”
War erupts on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion that threatens to destabilize the world in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. A young squad of South Korean soldiers fight to survive on the collapsing front lines, while half a world away a vengeful Captain Price wages a personal war from the shadows as he stays one step ahead of those hunting him. As Price’s off-book mission collides with the forces behind the invasion, the war spreads beyond anyone’s control.
