There have been some notable releases for Switch 2 thus far, but nothing overly remarkable at this point. We have had some notable first-party releases with the new Mario Tennis game and the Super Mario Bros. Wonder expansion, not to mention the surprisingly well-received Pokémon Pokopia. But Nintendo is going to need some heavy hitters to keep the hype rolling this year – will we finally get a new 3D Mario experience? Doesn’t sound like it at this point, but rumor has it a massive Zelda remake is inbound alongside a new Star Fox game and much sooner than later at that.
New Star Fox game
Fox McCloud will appear in the Mario Galaxy Movie, but this is actually just the beginning. Rumor has it a new Star Fox game for Switch 2 is inbound – it is apparently a more classic on-rails shooter and includes a multiplayer aspect.
There hasn’t been a Star Fox game for many years (roughly a decade), so I guess there had to be some reason Fox is appearing in the Galaxy Movie and this is a pretty good one.
I’m personally not a huge Star Fox fan, but for those of you that are, it appears as though there’s a good chance we are going to get a new one and it might very well be launching as soon as this summer? That seems awfully close and unlikely to me, but that is the rumor and it’s not entirely crazy considering McCloud’s appearance on screen.
New 3D Mario?
3D Mario is not coming in 2026…Noooooo.
It is, apparently, coming in 2027.

Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Remake
The big 2026 holiday game though, cause, you know, there always has to be one is apparently…an Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2. BOOM.
Let’s hope this one is true because Nintendo is going to need a serious release for 2026, obviously. The Super Mario Wonder extension thing is really great by just about all standards, but that’s not entirely new or nearly enough to get us through the year. It’s really great and it’s not a lazy expansion, but it’s not a 3D Mario game, and if there’s not going to be one of those Nintendo is going to need a serious release, and a proper Ocarina of Time launch could really be it. And I mean a proper remake, not just an HD res bump…a proper remake. That seems lofty, but wow that could be big and quite frankly a potentially game-changing release for Switch 2.
We are celebrating the Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary, and save for a complete remake of the original game or A Link to the Past, I’m not sure I can even think of a better way to mark the occasion than a ground up remake of Ocarina of Time. This remake is reportedly set to release in the latter half of 2026 in the lead up to the holidays.
Most of these rumors come by way of NatetheHate, a well known Nintendo Insider that has, on more than a few occasions, delivered for the goods on upcoming Nintendo releases well before Nintendo wants us to have them. We have heard similar rumors from other sources, but cannot confirm anything here.
Nate also said there will be no main Nintendo Direct again until June 2026, so chances are Nintendo’s major upcoming releases won’t see the light of day until then.
