Sony just announced sweeping price increases to PlayStation Plus subscriptions

The barrage of price hikes continue, and just after Nintendo announced the price of Switch 2 was going up, as well as Switch Online in select regions, Sony is now following suite with PlayStation Plus.

Sony just announced a price increase to PlayStation 5 hardware (again) back in April, and it was not an insignificant jump either. The base digital PS5 went up $100, much like the disc version, while the PlayStation 5 Pro Console jumped up to an exorbitant $900 in the U.S. So yeah, a lot

And now, PlayStation has taken to its official social accounts to announce that, while its hardware prices are remaining as stated above, PlayStation Plus is next.

I guess the only really good news here is that existing PS Plus subscribers will remain at the same rate, unless you’re in Turkey or India anyway:

Starting on Wednesday, May 20, PlayStation Plus prices “for new customers” will increase in select regions. Sony says this is “due to ongoing market conditions.” The new, higher prices are as follows:

  • $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP for 1-month subscriptions
  • $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP for 3-month subscriptions

I guess it’s not a giant price increase, but it certainly is one, and there’s no telling when it might stop.

Sony went on to say “this price change does not apply to current subscribers (except in Turkey and India) unless the existing subscription changes or lapses.” In other words, if you stop paying the rate you’re at now just to take a break or something, you’ll be opting back in at the higher price next time you jump in.
