Well, as much as as we hoped it wouldn’t, I guess we all sort of knew it was gong to happen eventually – Nintendo has now officially announced price increases on Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch 2 price increase announced
Folks and industry analysts have been warning everyone this would happen for some time, and as much as I figured they must be right, I didn’t really want to believe it. But all that changes now (or, rather, in a few months from now).
As far as here in the U.S. up in Canada, and in Europe, it appears, judging by today’s official announcement on the Nintendo corporate site, the prices changes will only be taking effect on Nintendo Switch 2:
- United States: Nintendo Switch 2 $449.99 to $499.99
- Canada: Nintendo Switch 2 $629.99 to $679.99
- Europe: Nintendo Switch 2 €469.99 to €499.99
That’s a $50 increase here in the U.S. as roughly what I was hoping for. And by hoping for I really mean dreading, but a $100 increase could have seriously out of control. There is no mention of the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle – it either won’t be available by then, or, as one could only assume, will also be subject to the hike up.
Nintendo says these price increases in the U.S., Canada, and Europe will start on September 1, 2026. If you don’t have one yet, you had better do so before then.
Effective Date of Price Revisions in the United States, Canada, and Europe: September 1, 2026
*Price revisions for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch will be implemented in other regions.
*Further details will be provided by the respective overseas subsidiaries.
Nintendo says it “sincerely apologize[s] for the impact these price revisions may have on [its] customers and other stakeholders, and [it] deeply appreciate[s] your understanding.”
Given that the impact of various changes in market conditions is expected to extend over the medium to long term, price revisions are also planned outside Japan.
