Timberleaf’s Pika teardrop trailer goes minimal with under $12,000 price tag

Affordable travel trailers and tow-behind RVs are making a serious splash in 2018 as millenials and new retirees look for low-cost ways to escape for weekend trips. Just recently, Aerostream turned its attention to this sub-market with its first non-aluminum model and other brands are following suit. The latest that has caught our eye comes from Timberleaf, manufacturers of off-road friendly campers. Its new Pika Teardrop delivers a mix of rugged styling and affordability at under $12,000. More below.

Timberleaf, who is based out of Colorado, first hit  the market with its Classic Teardrop a few years back. The Pika takes that design and reduces the overall footprint by 36% for an even friendlier tow-behind setup that weighs just over 1,000-pounds. Timberleaf was able to drastically reduce the weight by utilizing aluminum for the sides, and a clear anodized top that allows campers to view the stars at night.

The frame comes in at 54-inches by 96-inches, which is small enough to begin with, but when storage is accounted for, the space gets even tighter. Pika really is for sleeping only, as far as the interior is concerned. But Timberleaf does a nice job of utilizing the rear of this tear drop design to maximize storage. The sloped end features a “galley” kitchen with designated storage space, laminate countertops and a built-in fridge that doesn’t depend on ice to stay cool. There’s also a panel with various AC outlets and USB ports.

Our Pika Teardrop Trailer is thirty-six percent smaller than our Classic model, featuring a 54-inch by 96-inch frame, the Pika offers all of the quality craftsmanship Timberleaf Trailers has become known for, in a lighter and more nimble package.

Inside the main cabin you’ll find a double size mattress, which is sure to be a non-starter for some. If you can get over the arguably cramped sleeping quarters, there are some fun features to be had on the interior. Aside from aforementioned moonlight, you’ll find integrated LED lighting and an exhaust fan. An upgraded thermostat-controlled air system includes a rain sensor that adjusts as humidity changes. Birch plywood with a light stain wraps the cabin with a finishing touch.

The Timberleaf Pika is available for purchase today direct from the manufacturer. It starts at $11,750 with various upgrades taking the maximum price to the neighborhood of $15,000. Interested? Head over to this landing page and click on ‘order now’ at the top to start the process.
