What is AmazonFresh?

Amazon offers a number of services for its Prime members. Some are more well-known than others, like two-day shipping. Having a Prime membership also unlocks access to a variety of other services, which may not be at the top of your perks list. One of those is AmazonFresh. This add-on service is a simplified way to get your groceries delivered in major cities across the United States. While it isn’t included in the cost of a Prime membership, it does offer a compelling time-saver for busy parents. If you’ve ever wondered about AmazonFresh, head below for a full walkthrough.

What is AmazonFresh?

AmazonFresh is Amazon’s version of an online grocery delivery services. It promises a “wide selection of fresh groceries,” which includes fruit, milk, eggs and more, all of which can be delivered directly to your home in select markets. It’s similar to Amazon’s Whole Foods delivery service but focuses on different areas in the country.

Additionally, Amazon promises user-specific offerings for gluten-free, vegan, and organic shoppers. At its best, AmazonFresh offers more products and fresh produce than you’ll find at traditional grocery stores. This includes top brands like Tyson, Nature Valley, Annie’s Homegrown, and many more. Check out the entire selection on this landing page.

How much does AmazonFresh cost?

AmazonFresh requires a Prime membership to get started, so right off the bat you’re looking at $13 per month or $119 annually. From there, AmazonFresh will run you an additional $15 per month or $180 for an entire calendar year.

But that’s not the entire story. Delivery is free on orders over $50. If your total is less than that amount, you’re looking at an additional $10 per transaction. However, AmazonFresh pickup is available to members for free if you live within a designated area.

The list of current AmazonFresh cities includes:

  • Atlanta
  • Boston

  • Denver

Amazon is said to be expanding this service in 2019 to additional metro areas but none have been announced to date.

Who is AmazonFresh for?

That’s a great question, as AmazonFresh is certainly a pricey venture for most considering the minimum $279 investment before any additional fees are accounted for. Ultimately, AmazonFresh is about deciding how much your own time is worth.

If you find it difficult to get grocery shopping done, or simply don’t want to take the time, AmazonFresh is worth checking out. Using it twice per month over the course of a year equates to roughly $11 per trip when the Prime membership is accounted for. That’s if you make sure all orders are over $50.

For parents and professionals, it is certainly worth a look. But it’s important to understand the full cost associated with this service prior to jumping in head first.
