AT&T officially announced DirecTV Now to much fanfare on Monday as the new online streaming service looks to offer the strongest cord cutting alternative yet. Amidst the shuffle of details was a notable deal that nets new customers free 4th Generation 32GB Apple TV when three months of service are paid in advance. DirecTV Now plans start at $35 per month, making the out-the-door price as little as $105. This deal represents a $255 value as a 4th Gen. Apple TV generally sells for $150. For a limited time, the $60 Go Big package with additional channels is available at a discounted price of $35 as a part of this launch promotion. More details on channel listings below.

DirecTV Now is also offering a free Amazon Fire TV Stick with the purchase of one-month of service, an $85 value.

For cord cutters, this may be the best alternative to traditional cable yet. DirecTV Now brings the back-end support of two industry veterans alongside a large catalog of on-demand content. The base Live a Little $35 per month package includes over 60 channels with big names like ESPN, TNT, TBS, and USA. Additional plans bring premium content and more sports. Local channels are available in select markets with hopes to expand in 2017. DirecTV Now is compatible with a number of devices, including iOS and Android. The new Apple TV already plays host to many great apps and games. The tvOS App and Game Coding Bundle shows you how to build your own, with six video courses for $29 via 9to5Toys Specials.

The tuition starts from scratch, with Apple TV App Development for tvOS introducing the Xcode development environment and the languages you will need: Javascript, Swift, and TVML. You also learn about SpriteKit, and how to deploy your apps to the new App Store. Learn tvOS for Game Development unlocks the gaming niche, with a walkthrough of building a side-scroller and designing your own characters. You can add multiplayer action to your titles with Player vs. Player tvOS Games, while the Swift tvOS Crash Course shows you how to build a space shooter. If you would prefer to take the quickstart approach, the other two courses show you how to convert an existing iPhone app for Apple TV, and how to design apps without programming. It is 35 hours of training in all, with lifetime access included.

With the Apple TV platform still in the early stages, now is a great time to jump on board with your own apps — enroll now in the tvOS App and Game Coding Bundle to save 95% on this tuition.

Best Buy is now discounting the all-new 4th generation Apple TV by $24. That drops the 32GB model down to $124.99 and the 64GB to $174.99 with free shipping. There are also open-box options available for $116.99 and $161.99 shipped. Target has them on sale, but prices are $4 more at $129 and $179. REDcard holders can save an additional 5%, which brings final prices below Best Buy.

Radio Shack is still offering the current-generation 32GB Apple TV bundled with an HDMI cable for $119.98 + $5.95 shipping. The 64GB model is $169.98 + $5.95 shipping. expand full story

It’s only been a few short months since the 4th generation Apple TV with Siri remote was released, but it’s already available in refurbished condition from Apple’s online store. The discounts are slight, but they are definitely better than paying full-price: 32GB is $129 (Reg. $149) and 64GB is $169 (Reg. $199). Apple’s refurbished products include a full one-year warranty and generally come in great condition. Just last week Apple began offering refurbished 12-inch MacBooks for the first time ever. expand full story

Update (12/26 10:00am): Live near a RadioShack? You can get Apple TV 32GB for just $99.99. Today and tomorrow only.

RadioShack (yes, they still exist) offers the 4th generation Apple TV and a 6-ft HDMI cable for $119.98 plus $5.95 shipping. The only way to dodge the shipping charge is to find it in-stock at a RadioShack location.

The promo page lists the HDMI cable as a $20 value, but that’s not realistic. For example, you can buy a similar AmazonBasics cable right now for only $5.02. All told, you’re looking at an overall savings of about $29. That’s the best current deal for this streaming media player, but we’ve seen it lower. During Black Friday it was $112 and this past weekend you could snag one for $100 if you were quick enough. expand full story

Every year, Apple puts together a beautiful-looking holiday gift guide on, packed with the latest iOS devices, Macs, and accessories people would love to receive as gifts. The hitch is that Apple’s prices are almost always full retail, with no discounting, so it’s easy to spend anywhere from $5 to $300 more per item than if you just shopped around.

This year, 9to5Toys and 9to5Mac have done the bargain hunting for you. We’ve found savings on virtually every item on Apple’s holiday shopping list, which this year is organized into 6 sections: Gaming, Photography, Music, Fitness, Learning and Travel. Using the links below, you can save up to $350 on a new 12″ MacBook, between $20 and $80 on many third-party accessories, and up to $130 on a pair of Beats headphones

Even with its increased size, the new 4th generation Apple TV isn’t really an eyesore on any TV stand. Its all black coloring and same small footprint make it easy to tuck out of sight. Problems arise with wall-mounted and ultra-ultra-minamilist TV setups where exposed cables can completely ruin the aesthetic.

One of the best ways keep a clean entertainment center is to mount Apple TV on the back of your HDTV. These multi-use mounts have been around for some time, but a couple have been updated to accommodate Apple’s new thicker streamer. expand full story

The absolute last place you want to shop for iPhone, iPad, and Mac deals this Black Friday is the Apple Store. Historically, Apple’s participation in the biggest shopping day of the year has been limited to offering super modest (borderline insulting) discounts or free iTunes Gift Cards. We suspect this year won’t be any different.

On the flip side, other major retailers including Best Buy, Target, and Staples are extending huge discounts to many of Apple’s flagship products. To help you plan your holiday shopping, we’ve pored over every Black Friday ad available to bring you the very best upcoming Apple deals: expand full story
