Epson’s new ultra short-throw 1080p projector has 4,000 lumens w/ $2,999 price tag

Projectors are an excellent way to go from a typical home theater setup to the next level. But one of the most common complaints that comes along with this tech is the unsightly design typically found on most ceiling mounted options. Going with a short-throw projector can help solve that problem and Epson’s latest seems to fit the bill.

The new Home Cinema LS100 is described as an “ultra short-throw” display that uses laser technology to recreate a 120-inch 1080p display while sitting very close to the wall. Epson is pumping out 4,000 lumens on its new projector, which is sure to provide an immersive experience in nearly every environment.

Epson has long been known as the industry leader in this category, from consumer options up to full-on professional-grade equipment. Today’s release falls somewhere in the middle, with the 1080p version priced at $2,999 when it hits online shelves later this year. But those looking past the price tag will find a bevy of features not found on more budget-friendly models.

The most notable of which is the 4,000 lumen lamp that we mentioned earlier. That’s bright enough for most users to be able to enjoy content in fully lit spaces such as outdoor areas during the day.

Epson’s Home Cinema LS100 sports three HDMI inputs, which is pretty impressive for this price point. Each of which can be projected on a display that’s up to 120-inches in size. Epson claims that its 2,500,000:1 contract ratio will deliver deeper blacks and better colors overall in comparison to the competition, but we all know that varies by environment.

Good news for consumers is that Epson expects a ten-year life out of the laser-powered projection system. That takes the guesswork and potential frustration out of swapping bulbs periodically, which can become quite expensive over time. Epson also includes a two-year warranty with purchase and free two-day replacement if anything were to go awry.

The new Epson Home Cinema LS100 will be available for purchase at Amazon for $2,999 “later this fall”. If you’re in the market for something a bit more affordable, we’d recommend checking out Optoma’s latest 4K projector. We recently went hands-on and found it to be a solid purchase with exceptional sharpness for under $2,000.
