Apple is now shipping new iMacs, but savvy buyers should hold off just a bit longer

apple-imac-new-9to5toys-deal

Apple quietly updated their entire iMac lineup yesterday and they are pretty much the only game in town currently shipping the new desktop computers. This spells trouble for savvy buyers looking for a deal. It will take a week or so for authorized resellers (Best Buy, Newegg, B&H, etc) to stock each iMac model and only then will we start to see any sort of appreciable discount. It should be noted that MacMall is currently showing a $5 discount across the board but they are not specifying ship times. Amazon is also offering preorders.

Authorized resellers typically offer the best deals thanks to potential tax savings (at the time of purchase) and a higher propensity to offer discounts as way to be competitive. We saw $50 discounts only a month after the new Haswell MacBook Airs were released, so it shouldn’t be too long until the new iMacs see a price drop.

If you simply hold of purchasing a new iMac it is best to go directly through Apple and use any discounts that may apply to you (education, military, corporate, etc). If you are planning to add AppleCare to your new iMac be sure to grab it from an authorized reseller as their prices typically trump Apple direct.

Apple Deals: iMac 21.5″ (Newest Version) $1,150, iPad 3rd Gen. 64GB WiFi $499, iPad 4th Gen. 16GB WiFi $469 Shipped

Update: iMac is sold out, but both iPad deals remain.

eBay is offering an Apple iPad 3 with Retina display, 64GB WiFI for just $499 with free shipping.  That is a total savings of $200 off the original retail price and $50 below what Apple charges for a refurbished unit.  Another option is picking up a brand new iPad 4th Gen. 16GB WiFi (Newest Model) with Retina display and Lightning connector for just $469, a total savings of $31 off the retail price of $500.  Available in black or white.

UpdateAmazon has matched the Best Buy iMac offer. Grab it here for $1,150 plus potential tax savings for some at the time of purchase, potentially making it a more enticing purchase.

Today we have two great Apple deals that fit together well.  A beautiful iMac with a large 21.5″ screen for heavy duty computing and an iPad as a mobile solution.  Both items are brand new and include free shipping.

First up over at Best Buy is the super-skinny, current generation iMac 21.5″ with 1TB hard drive, 8GB RAM and a 2.7GHz processor for just $1,150 with free shipping.  This is $150 lower than all other retailers, matching the lowest price ever offered for this Mac.

Apple’s 27-inch iMacs hit the refurb store but you can often get a new one for less

Refurb-iMac-27-inch

Apple today started offering a couple new models of its latest generation iMac through its refurbished online store. Previously Apple was offering refurbished units of the new 21.5-inch iMac only, but we hadn’t seen any 27-inch models hit yet, which we assumed was likely due to yield issues and significant delays experienced in the iMac’s first few months of launch. Today Apple has finally started offering both the entry level 27-inch iMac and the higher end iMac, in addition to a couple of BTO models. However, taking tax into account, you might be about to score a new one for around the same price… Read more
