Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, prices, pre-order details, and more inbound
Back when Nintendo unleashed the first-look Switch 2 trailer – the first official look at the new console – it said it would be sharing all of the coming months. Thereafter, it announced the complete official reveal of Switch 2 would take place as part of a special Direct showcase that would go live on April 2 at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET…and that’s just over 24 hours from the time of writing this.
Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 – 4.2.2025 will air on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at 6 a.m. PST, offering a closer look at Nintendo Switch 2.
Details on what exactly we will see during the show have not been officially released, but this is it and we expect to see everything – release date, pre-order date, potential launch bundles, a look at some first-party launch games, hardware features of the new Switch 2, the potential mouse mode, what that mysterious “C” button does, reversible Joy-Con, and a whole lot more.

Rumors regarding the existence of Switch 2 date back years, perhaps way back when the Nintendo rumor cycle was dominated by what was, at the time, largely referred to as the Switch Pro. While back then, there may or may not have been a Switch Pro in development behind closed doors at Nintendo (no comment there), none of that matters now as all of that is behind us and the Switch 2 is now literally right in front of us.
Pre-orders for the next-generation Switch 2 console are quickly approaching. Best Buy might have accidentally leaked that the console would go up for pre-order on April 2 (likely right after or during the Direct showcase) just before internal documents from a major U.S. retailer seemingly surfaced suggesting Best Buy either had it wrong or just mentioned the April 2 date in error. Those documents suggest Switch 2 will go up for pre-order the following week on April 9. But they also mentioned that this retailer believes it will sell out of Switch 2 stock the day of, if not right away…you’ll want to stay locked to our coverage for up-to-the-minute details on live listings, whenever they might go live.
Chances are, the Switch 2 Direct will be the first time we get an actual official date for pre-orders. It’s almost impossible to believe Nintendo won’t completely open the flood gates tomorrow – we expect to get the official price of Switch 2 as well as the pre-order date, release date, a look at the launch games (especially the first-party titles), and a complete rundown of the console in terms of features, and well, basically everything.
It is possible Nintendo keeps some of the hardcover technical specifications under wraps, or rather just glosses over them during the Direct – it tends to keep things far more light-hearted and fun, but either way, just about all of our questions will be answered starting at 9 a.m. ET tomorrow during the Switch 2 Direct presentation.
