How much will Grand Theft Auto 6 cost? After years of waiting, a pair of high-profile delays, and a particularly cruel false start to pre-orders courtesy of Best Buy, it’s finally happening – Grand Theft Auto is officially going up for pre-order next week. And now everyone is wondering what the price of GTA 6 is going to be.
Grand Theft Auto 6 price
I’m not sure if it’s the first pre-order announcement ever that did not include a price, but that certainly doesn’t happen all that often. Now that we know when GTA VI is going up for pre-order, and with prices going up this generation – Mario Kart World debuted at a whopping $80, the question remains, how much is this thing going to cost?
In this case, unlike just about every other game that has ever released, I’m not sure it matters all that much. There are droves of gamers out there just waiting for Rockstar to take their money that don’t really even care how much Grand Theft Auto is going to cost. That’s not universally true, and even if it was, we all still want to know.
It seems most folks assume Rockstar will announce the price before pre-orders go live on June 25, and that might indeed be the case, but I’m certainly not expecting anything. This is GTA after all, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the price for the first time as soon as pre-order listings go up.

I think it’s safe to assume there’s zero chance it is going to land at $59.99, and even $69.99 seems unlikely. Rumors suggested the game would launch with a staggering $99.99 list price, but something’s telling me there’s a better chance of seeing this thing at what has become the sort of industry standard max at $79.99 for the standard edition, $100 for the deluxe (or whatever it will be called), and something exorbitant for the special edition with all of the bells and whistles – this thing could be anywhere from $150 up to as much as $250.
Let’s take a look at the pricing on GTA V, add natural inflation, recent economic turmoil, and take a look from there:
- Grand Theft Auto 5 standard edition $59.99
- Grand Theft Auto 5 special edition $79.99
- Grand Theft Auto 5 collector’s edition $149.99
Now take that, add some official statements from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick’s recent comments on the matter, and sprinkle on some 2026 gaming industry inflation:
Zelnick has said previously that the company is trying to charge “way less” than what the game is actually worth and that gamers need to feel “the price they were charged was fair for what they got.”
That sounds a lot like $80 is about as low as the company is willing to charge for what is arguably an experience that, for many gamers, is worth even more than that. I mean even if you love you some Mario Kart World and have kids that do too, it’s hard to argue GTA VI not being a far more expansive and valuable gaming experience.
So where does that leave us? Most industry insider and gamer speculation has the price of Grand Theft Auto 6 looking something like this:
- Grand Theft Auto 6 standard edition $79.99 (Up to $100)
- Grand Theft Auto 6 special edition $99.99
- Grand Theft Auto 6 collector’s edition $199.99 (Up to $250 or more)
That seems pretty accurate and, frankly, fair to me. It is extremely hard to believe Rockstar and Take-Two would unleash what will arguably be the biggest thing in gaming for years to come at $70, but it might also get creative with Online access and things of that nature too.
