The summer PlayStation State of Play showcase goes live today. We get more than a few State of Play broadcasts per year, but none quite as big as the big June show, and it all starts very soon.
Summer PlayStation State of Play showcase
Sony announced its major summer showcase back mid/late-May and the day has now arrived. Alongside the Summer Game Fest main event, this weekend’s Xbox Games Showcase, and (hopefully) and upcoming Nintendo Direct, today’s State of Play showcase is Sony’s answer to the old E3 keynote and we expect big things, very big things.
Today’s show is promised to be an hour-long bananza of brand new game reveals, a closer look at the biggest upcoming releases we already know about, and hopefully some major surprises.
The only thing we know for sure is the in-depth look at Insomniac’s next big Marvel game – Wolverine – because it has already told us we are getting one today ahead of its September 15 release later this year. But beyond that, it’s mostly anyone’s guess. Pre-orders are now live.
Maybe we will (definitely not) get the reveal of a new Bloodborne game (okay, yea lol there, but can can we at least get a proper Bloodborne PS5 remake with a Halloween-ish release date?), and maybe we will (probably not) get a teaser for The Last of Us III. But I think we should more realistically expect something on Silent Hill: Townfall and it seems like there are plenty of folks hoping to get a proper look and more details on the new Naughty Dog experience, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Santa Monica Studios is certainly due for something major from the God of War series (perhaps that rumored AAA spin-off as opposed to a proper look at the already teased remake).
Sony already outed the release date and pre-order details on all of the new hardware it has already revealed, so chances are we won’t be seeing all that much there – this is a good thing if you ask me…let’s stick to the games.
Anyways, we will know for sure, and really soon now as Sony is set to take the virtual stage at 2:00 p.m. PT/5:00 p.m. ET. Watch it along with us below:
