Watch out LEGO fans, the Minecraft collection is about to expand in a big way. Today, LEGO revealed the new 2,863-piece Mountain Cave set that delivers one of the most thorough recreations we’ve ever seen. Minecraft itself is known for its friendly block-by-block building experience. That makes it a perfect companion for the iconic brand. While LEGO has slowly rolled out plenty of similar sets in the past with this theme, today’s is one of the the biggest…and most expensive.
Set number 21137 is officially titled ‘The Mountain Cave’ and its 2,800+ piece design tops last year’s Minecraft Village set, that totaled 1,600-pieces. Today’s announcement centers around a large stone mountain that comes in at over one-foot tall at its peak. It has the usual mix of bright saturated colors as well as natural earth tones we’ve come to expect from Minecraft.
The mountain itself sits upon a 20 x 11-inch plate that provides just enough room for the entire build. Don’t count on free-styling your much here as your space is pretty tight as-is. The basic build is vertical but there is also an option for more of a landscape setup, so there is opportunity to come back and enjoy a new look, if you prefer.
My personal favorite part of this kit are all of the Minecraft-specific pieces and minifigs. That includes jack o’ laterns, lava, rail carts and a whole lot more. There are quite a few new elements as well that are designed just for this set, along with two minifigs and 13 different mobs. That includes a creeper, slime, bats, a wolf and more. Add in the waterfall cascading from the top and you’ve got one of finest Minecraft recreations that we’ve ever scene.
LEGO’s newest Minecraft set falls in its highest recommended age bracket of 12 years and older. Coming in at $249.99, it’s also on the pricier end of the spectrum. Reminiscent of the popular Death Star kits, this is a complex build that you’ll likely spend multiple hours on. LEGO is set to release 21137 The Mountain Cave on July 1st. We do expect LEGO VIP members to have early access, up to two weeks in advance.
If you’re interested in diving into the world of LEGO Minecraft but aren’t ready to shell out $200 or more, there are plenty of sets available on Amazon priced from around $10. This includes a miniature version of today’s announcement that is currently selling for $14.50 Prime shipped.
