Nintendo officially unveils Splatoon 3 release date alongside today’s new gameplay trailer

Splatoon 3 pre-orders

Update: On the heels of today’s Splatoon 3 release date reveal, Nintendo has now taken to its official Twitter account to announce that all Nintendo Switch Expansion packs members can play the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion DLC at no additional cost.

Back during February’s massive Direct presentation, Nintendo had the Splatoon 3 release date earmarked for summer 2022, but we now know the next entry in the squid shooter series is slated for September 2022 as per the tweet Nintendo just let loose on its official Twitter account. After surprisingly pushing the release date for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 ahead some three months, it would appear that Zelda Breath of the Wild 2’s delay into 2023 is shuffling the rest of the Switch lineup around a little bit. Nonetheless, we now know exactly when Splatoon 3 will hit store shelves. Head below for more details and a look at today’s new Turf War gameplay footage.

NVIDIA data breach could point at potential Nintendo Switch 2 console in development

A collection of private data from NVIDIA has hit the internet as part of a recent cyberattack suggesting Nintendo Switch 2 might already be in development in some way, shape or form. That Nintendo Switch Pro rumor that surfaced several times last year and even before that never quite came true, yet. The new OLED model of Nintendo’s hybrid console that was unveiled last summer before hitting store shelves in October brought with it an impressive new display alongside some other light enhancements over the base model, but it wasn’t quite the Pro model or Nintendo Switch 2 some gamers were hoping for. And while we don’t have direct confirmation at this time that a new machine is even in the works just yet, a recent NVIDIA data leak might suggest it is. Head below for more details.

FREE Nintendo 3DS games and deals + eShop exclusives to secure before they are gone forever

Reg. $40+ FREE+

We have spotted some Nintendo 3DS game deals alongside some eShop exclusives and freebies you might want to consider grabbing now. Nintendo will sadly be closing the 3DS eShop come March of next year, alongside disabling the ability to add funds to these accounts starting in May of 2022 (more details on that right here.) Not only does that leave a wealth of titles out in the cold only to be found in rare physical form across the interwebs and retail bargain bins, but that also means your 3DS library will soon be frozen in time, so to speak, with no way of adding new digital titles from Nintendo’s eShop. While there are third-party sellers that will carry the bigger name titles for what will likely go beyond the March 2023 cut off date, that could mean some of the standout eShop exclusives might be lost forever. So let’s take a look at some of the 3DS titles that are currently on sale via the eShop as well as some freebies and standout exclusives you might want to scoop up now.

Call of Duty on Switch? Microsoft president Brad Smith seems to think it could happen

The past few weeks have been pretty busy in Call of Duty news. But, something we haven’t taken a look at yet is Microsoft’s president, Brad Smith, who gave an interview to CNBC. A lot of information came out of the interview, but what caught our eye is the fact that Brad mentioned Nintendo specifically… but does that mean Call of Duty on Switch could become a reality?

Well, the first Nintendo Direct presentation of the year has arrived with the new Switch games set to hit in the first half of the year. As we mentioned in our announcement coverage, Nintendo is scheduling around 40 minutes of straight updates and preview looks at what’s to come between now and, presumably, June of 2022. The Switch has now overtaken the Wii as Nintendo’s best-selling console in history

Sales reports put the Switch as the best-selling Nintendo console ever. While it seems as though, mostly due to COVID-19 and subsequent shipping shortages industry-wide, that console sales would be much lower than normal – and to some degree they are, but the Switch has surpassed Nintendo’s juggernaut Wii sales numbers according to the latest numbers. After Xbox Series S had a strong holiday season last year and Sony looking to put another million PS4 consoles out in the wild this year to make up for a lack of its latest machines, the latest Switch sales numbers clock in at 103.54 million since its launch back in 2017, making it the best-selling Nintendo console ever. Update: Nintendo took to its official Twitter feed late last night to unveil the February 25, 2022 Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask Online release date. You can check out the announcement trailer below.

The Zelda Majora’s Mask Switch Online release is coming next month. While it was unclear how often Nintendo would update the somewhat controversial Expansion Pack tier of its Switch Online game library, the announcements are starting to hit. After adding five new titles to the SEGA Genesis side of things back in December, earlier this week it announced Banjo-Kazooie would be making its triumphant return to Nintendo platforms as part of its more expensive Expansion Pack (now available with more details right here). Quickly following that launch, Nintendo took to its official Twitter account to reveal the next game coming to the service, the beloved Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask. More details below.

New Switch Mario Kart game reportedly on the way for 2022 with unique gameplay twist

A new Mario Kart game is apparently in the works at Nintendo. Recent reports suggest a new Mario Kart Switch game, or Mario Kart 9 as it will likely be called, is on the way and is already in development at Nintendo. Considering the franchise has long since been one of the most popular, well-received, and best-selling titles on just about every gaming platform Nintendo has put out over the last decade or more, it’s probably about time anyway. Nintendo has heavily relied on titles outside of the Mushroom Kingdom like Animal Crossing most recently to drive sales, but it sounds like Mario’s latest console is about to get a whole new racing circuit soon.
