Well, the first Nintendo Direct presentation of the year has arrived with the new Switch games set to hit in the first half of the year. As we mentioned in our announcement coverage, Nintendo is scheduling around 40 minutes of straight updates and preview looks at what’s to come between now and, presumably, June of 2022. While it’s hard to say what exactly Nintendo will be showing off when it comes to new Switch games, Kirby and the Forgotten Land and quite possibly more of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp will likely be on the docket. Although it’s the surprises that have us most excited, the guessing game is over now so head below to follow along with today’s Nintendo Direct presentation. 

Sales reports put the Switch as the best-selling Nintendo console ever. While it seems as though, mostly due to COVID-19 and subsequent shipping shortages industry-wide, that console sales would be much lower than normal – and to some degree they are, but the Switch has surpassed Nintendo’s juggernaut Wii sales numbers according to the latest numbers. After Xbox Series S had a strong holiday season last year and Sony looking to put another million PS4 consoles out in the wild this year to make up for a lack of its latest machines, the latest Switch sales numbers clock in at 103.54 million since its launch back in 2017, making it the best-selling Nintendo console ever. The Zelda Majora’s Mask Switch Online release is coming next month. While it was unclear how often Nintendo would update the somewhat controversial Expansion Pack tier of its Switch Online game library, the announcements are starting to hit. After adding five new titles to the SEGA Genesis side of things back in December, earlier this week it announced Banjo-Kazooie would be making its triumphant return to Nintendo platforms as part of its more expensive Expansion Pack (now available with more details right here). Quickly following that launch, Nintendo took to its official Twitter account to reveal the next game coming to the service, the beloved Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask. More details below. 

Some Kirby 30th anniversary content is on the way from Nintendo. This year marks the adorable little guy’s 30th year as everyone’s favorite pink gaming mascot after debuting way back in 1992 with Kirby’s Dream Land on the Game Boy. After launching a slew of new content for Mario’s 35th anniversary back in September of 2020 (including a new Mario battle royale game, the Super Mario 3D All-Stars Collection, and a new Game & Watch-style handheld), Nintendo has already started the festivities for Kirby with some deals and freebies. A new Mario Kart game is apparently in the works at Nintendo. Recent reports suggest a new Mario Kart Switch game, or Mario Kart 9 as it will likely be called, is on the way and is already in development at Nintendo. Considering the franchise has long since been one of the most popular, well-received, and best-selling titles on just about every gaming platform Nintendo has put out over the last decade or more, it’s probably about time anyway. Nintendo has heavily relied on titles outside of the Mushroom Kingdom like Animal Crossing most recently to drive sales, but it sounds like Mario’s latest console is about to get a whole new racing circuit soon. 

While some folks weren’t overly pleased with the more expensive tier, Nintendo has just added some new SEGA Switch Online games to the Expansion package to make it more digestible. Nintendo launched the more pricey option for its Switch Online eco-system back in October, bringing some absolutely classic titles from its beloved Nintendo 64 library to NSO alongside some brilliant SEGA games with matching wireless gamepads (you have literally a few hours maximum to enter our FREE giveaway of the hard-to-get wireless N64 controller). The SEGA list, starting right now, just got even deeper with five additional titles being added to the mix for Expansion Pack members, including the cult classic Altered Beast. The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack is scheduled to launch starting today with access to the new Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis game libraries. Nintendo Switch Online is getting a big-time upgrade today with the launch of Nintendo’s new premium-tier Switch Online membership that includes everything in the standard subscription alongside the new Switch Online N64 and Genesis titles as well as the just-announced Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise DLC expansion. Head below for more details on when and where to access the new Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.

The upcoming Switch Online N64 and SEGA Genesis update now has an official release date and price tag, but you’re probably not going to like it. The addition of Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis games to Nintendo’s Online Switch service is a very exciting one, but just as we assumed, it’s going to cost you significantly more than the current $20 per year you’re paying for Switch Online right now. The new Switch Online Expansion Pack, as it is officially known, will launch later this month with the new Switch Online AnimalCrossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise update, but you’ll need to have the new Switch Online N64 and SEGA Genesis Expansion Pack to access it all. The scheduled Mr. Sakurai presents showcase ran today as planned with new details on the round 11 Mii Fighter Costumes, a new stage, and the final fighter to enter the fray: Sora from Kingdom Hearts. It’s time to take a look at some Switch Bluetooth speakers now that Nintendo has introduced support for the wireless audio standard. In a recent announcement, Nintendo has finally issued an update for Switch that allows it to support wireless Bluetooth audio, which means you can get rid of that wired connection and move to a Switch Bluetooth speaker rig, whether it’s just for portable gaming, or when you get kicked off the big screen in the living room. Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy titles are reportedly on the way. Nintendo’s online service is already filled with titles from its classic game systems, but judging by a series of reports this week, including various independent sources close to the matter, Nintendo might very well be announcing the inclusion of Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles as early as this month. The new Nintendo Switch OLED pre-orders will be going live starting today at various retailers. Nintendo came out of nowhere at the beginning of the month to finally unveil the next iteration of its Switch hardware with the new OLED model in two colorways, matching accessories, and more. While it was still unclear at the time when listings would go live, we now know Nintendo Switch OLED pre-orders will be available starting today at 3 p.m. ET. After years of speculation, Nintendo just took to its official Twitter feed to unveil the brand new Nintendo Switch OLED model. It is said to bring the “versatility of the Nintendo Switch experience with a vibrant 7-inch OLED screen, a wide adjustable stand, and more.” It is set for release on October 8, 2021.
