Nintendo unveils the new Splatoon 2 Switch bundle for North America

(Update 9/8 1:15pm):

Nintendo of Japan unveiled a new Splatoon 2 Switch bundle a few months ago. While North American gamers were left in the dust at the time, the bundle (or a version of it) will now be made available stateside. Outside of retailer created options that are usually (always) over-priced, this is essentially one of the only main bundles available to those in the US.

We have seen a number of notable Switch customizations so far along with the Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, but this will be the first time gamers in North America can grab the Neon Pink and Neon Green Joy-Con. The included carrying case is adorned by all things Splatoon 2 and features pink/green accents throughout its mainly black housing.

The new Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch bundle will be made available next month and will include a digital download of Splatoon 2, the watermelon-looking Joy-Con and a carrying case. Even if Splatoon 2 isn’t necessarily your first game of choice, this is good news for anyone still looking to get their hands on a Switch. At the very least some additional stock will have to be made available for the new bundle on top of the hard to come by base model.

This will be a Walmart exclusive according to today’s press release and will run you $379.99 when it becomes available on September 8th. Some quick math tells us that we are essentially paying full price for the Switch and Splatoon 2 on top of around $20 for the carrying case. So clearly there is no discount here with the bundle, but no one has ever or will ever expect that from Nintendo with a system that is selling this well. In fact, according to GameSpot, Nintendo Switch outsold PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for a few months in a row now.

Nintendo has also dropped some details on the next Splatfest. The online competition will take place on September 1st and 2nd and will pit players against each other in a massive online Turf War battle. More details will be announced soon. Nintendo says there has already been over 400 million online battles played in Splatoon 2 after less than a month out in the wild.

While we are yet to see listings for the new bundle up on Walmart thus far, it won’t be long before that happens. If you already have a Switch and just have to get your hands on a Neon Pink/Green controller, the Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is already available for purchase, despite being somewhat hard to find. We will update this post when the new bundle goes up for purchase.
