This is Ground has long been known for its exceptional handmade leather accessories, covering just about every product category from iPad to Nintendo Switch. We’re big fans of its Mod carrying case which is now on the third-generation.
Based out of Los Angeles, many of This is Ground’s accessories are made here in the United States from top-grade materials. That includes the Tech Dopp Kit 2, a unique 21st century take on an old-school travel necessity. Head below for a few quick thoughts, a gallery and more.
Over the last few years, I’ve reviewed a number of This is Ground products ranging from the aforementioned Mod to the recently released Connoisseur Apple Watch collection. I’ve always been a big fan of the choice of materials used on each of its products. But with that comes a high price tag. In the instance of This is Ground’s Tech Dopp Kit 2, the $219 MSRP may simply be a non-starter for some. Those willing to look past the sticker price will find a product that’s built to last.
The Tech Dopp Kit is a large rectangular zip-up organizer that is just the right size to fit all of your accessories. My setup on-the-road includes a four-port Anker wall charger, Lightning, USB-C and microUSB cables, a SanDisk portable SSD, and another Anker power bank that can handle my MacBook and Nintendo Switch. From time to time you’ll also find various USB-C dongles and other flash storage.
Inside you’ll find designated storage areas for cables, Apple Pencil and a zippered pouch that’s perfect for microSD cards and the like.
My endorsement for this product goes like this. I’ve never felt like there wasn’t enough room for all of the necessary accessories on a road trip. This is Ground does a masterful job of offering just enough room, without making the Dopp Kit feel like overkill. Best of all, the rectangular design doesn’t leave you stressing out the zipper because it’s over filled.
