Amazon Best of Prime 2018 details this year’s best-sellers, including one big surprise

Amazon Best of Prime 2018

As it does each year, Amazon is sharing its post-mortem of the most popular items sold on its online marketplace. We’ve already detailed which products were the best-sellers throughout Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Now we’re diving into what Amazon is calling the Best of Prime 2018, which details this year’s most-purchased listings and other interesting tidbits that give a glimpse into the average Prime member. Head below for more.

Amazon Best of Prime 2018: services show significant growth

As Amazon has expanded its empire to more categories and services than ever before, we’re seeing its annual best-seller list evolve as well. This year it’s not just about which TV was most popular or how many Instant Pots were sold. Amazon is also focusing on its Whole Foods properties, relaying that more shoppers made purchases during Black Friday week than ever before.

Plus, Amazon’s Prime Video and Music services saw more use than any prior year. That’s not a surprise as its in-house library of content has grown by leaps and bounds in comparison to even 24 months ago. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan starring John Krasinski and Homecoming featuring Julia Roberts were the most popular original series on the Video side of things. Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake took home the mantle as the most streamed music artist.

Amazon also introduced its Twitch Prime freebie initiative in 2018, which saw members claim more than 50 million titles throughout the year. Not bad for just six months.

Amazon Best of Prime 2018: most sold products

For Prime members, it was a big year for low-cost products. The most popular tech was the Panasonic ErgoFit In-Ear Earbuds Headphones and Tile Mate Bluetooth Tracker, believe it or not. I’m admittedly shocked that those earbuds have sold so well. But the $12 price tag is certainly undeniable.

Although its in the “home improvement” category, it’s no surprise that TP-Link Kasa Smart Plugs were very popular in 2018. Other notable chart-toppers include the Bowflex SelectTech Adjustable Dumbbells and L.O.L. Surprise! Bigger Surprise, two products that we saw dominate our list of holiday best-sellers this year.

9to5Toys’ Take: Best of Prime 2018 showcases Amazon’s reach

Amazon is enjoying more success than ever before, as its services and offerings continue to expand. Today’s news release details how wide the online giant is reaching, and we don’t expect that to stop any time soon.

The bad news here is that Amazon’s domination does spell long-term concern for other retailers. It’s a good thing for consumers to have competition, which ultimately drives down prices. That said, Amazon is making it easier to cash in on savings than ever before if you’re willing to be a Prime member. 2019 is shaping up to be a huge year for the retailer and we’ll be waiting anxiously to see what is next.
