Market analysts warned us ahead of launch that it would happen, Nintendo just officially increased the price on Switch hardware and Switch 2 accessories (again) in the U.S., and it seems it’s only a matter of time before Switch 2 console prices go up too. The new systems and bundles launched at a list much higher than last generation, but, judging by the way things are going, it’s might be going up from there, and it could be as soon as this year – if you don’t have one yet, now might be the time to strike.
Nintendo Switch 2, naturally, launched at a significantly higher price point than Switch did. This, by and large, didn’t come as much surprise to those who even mildly follow market trends or gaming in general, but it’s certainly no small investment.
There was a time, not all that long ago, when families and gamers purchasing a Switch instead of the other two expensive consoles was not only because of an affinity for Nintendo’s magical plumber and hero of Hyrule, but also because it was a more budget-friendly decision. While that is still the case to some degree, the difference is far less easier on the pocket than it once was, and chances are Switch 2 might be, more or less, just as pricey as the other two soon.
Nintendo has already raised the price twice now on the official Switch 2 accessories, it launched its console-selling game at $80 – basically the most expensive game in the industry at the time, and it seems the gaming world’s most exciting and popular new piece of hardware could follow suit.
While we have no hard data on when or even if Switch 2 will see a price increase, it’s certainly not out of the question. That, on top of the fact that Switch consoles are almost certainly not going to see any actual discounts in 2025 (or maybe ever at this point), means that whether or not the price goes up or not this year it might be smart to score one, or a second one, or that Pokemon bundle you had your eye on, anyway just in case it does.
We in no way shape or form think that just about anyone needs two Switch 2 consoles, but everyone’s situation is different and some folks have kids, or nieces, or nephews, or wives, or boyfriends that hog the darn Mario Kart World all weekend and ruin their Friday nights, and you don’t want to get stuck paying more for a console that might just get more expensive the longer you wait.
It might not happen, but I think most folks are just expecting it’s going to, and we don’t want anyone paying more than they need to on something that’s already more expensive than it ever was.
