How to get YouTube on Nintendo Switch 2

How to get YouTube on Switch 2? Is there a YouTube app for Switch 2 yet? Is there any way to watch YouTube on Switch 2? These are some of the questions that have been floating around for folks looking for some YouTube action on the new Nintendo console, and it turns out there is a way to make it happen.

The official TeamYouTube account on X did say there was a proper YouTube app for Switch 2 coming soon, but it appears to have been either premature or just wrong as of right now (the post was deleted). One would assume there will indeed be a native YouTube app on Switch 2 at some point – there is one for Switch after all – but as of right now, there isn’t, and it appears as though folks want one.

If you, for whatever reason, really want YouTube on your Switch 2, there is a way to make it happen – just download Super Animal Royale

According to reports, a Reddit user by the name of JampyL seems to have figured it out – to get YouTube on Switch 2 you just need to go score the FREE download of Super Animal Royale on the eShop – it’s a “64-player, frenetic, top-down 2D battle royale” that also happens to house a quirky little workaround to get YouTube on your machine.

It sounds like all you have to do is click on one of the YouTube videos on the game’s main menu and hit the “watch on YouTube” option. This will then bump you over to a browser app where you can search for whatever videos you want.

The whole thing appears to be quite messy in practice, but it does indeed work. There are some loading issues on YouTube once you get there, but folks are able to search around and essentially watch whatever they want by the looks of it.

It’s an inelegant, albeit interesting, little workaround, and the resolution of the videos is not good (garbage), but they do look fine in handheld mode (you’re not going to want to do this while docked on a big screen).

There is almost surely a proper YouTube Switch 2 app inbound, but as of right now, Super Animal Royale YouTube will have to do.
