We’re already a day into Gamescom 2018 and we’ve already gotten a glimpse at the latest hardware releases like ASUS’s new TUF Gaming Laptops and Microsoft’s Xbox Design Lab controllers. Now Samsung is getting in on the action, debuting a pair of new curved monitors with a 144Hz refresh rate to give gamers an edge.
Across the board, gaming monitors and other accessories tend to be pretty pricy, with those into competitive play willing to shell out big bucks to get the best gear on the market. Samsung is looking to change that with its latest CJG5 monitor series, both of which pair high refresh rates with modest features and a more affordable price tag.
The company’s latest come in the form of two new displays, a smaller 27-inch model alongside a 32-inch version. The biggest draw here for many with both of the new devices is of course the 144Hz refresh rate. That joins the list of other standout inclusions like a curved form-factor and high contrast ratio.
Not everyone needs a monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate, but if you find yourself spending any considerable amount of time logged into Steam or any other PC game for that matter, it can make all the difference.
To keep costs down, Samsung has opted to go with a 1440p display panel rather than some of the more pixel-dense options currently available. Both monitors also come with a 16:9 aspect ratio. You’re also getting a more sensible lineup of I/O ports, with the new monitors only including two HDMI inputs, a DisplayPort jack and the typical 3.5mm headphone port.
Samsung’s latest PC gaming peripherals are described as being “reasonable and affordable” and as such, enter with prices starting at $329.99 for the smaller 27-inch model. Upgrading to the 32-inch version will only run you an additional $70, raising the price to $399.99. There’s still no exact word yet on when we’ll be seeing the new releases hit store shelves, but Samsung does note they’ll be getting a global release sometime in the third quarter of 2018.
For those eyeing up a low-cost 144Hz monitor, Samsung’s two new models look to be noteworthy additions to the world of gaming accessories. So if you’re looking to make the switch to a high refresh rate display and don’t need all the extra bells and whistles, these releases seem to be as good as they come.
