Nintendo adds Breath of the Wild Link & Master Cycle to Mario Kart 8 for FREE

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe may not have been the completely new, refreshed cart racing title Switch fans were hoping for when Nintendo’s latest console dropped, but it has been a great addition to the library nonetheless. It’s hard to imagine a new Nintendo console without an updated Mario Kart game to play on it, so it’s easy to see why Nintendo opted for a re-release of sorts while it toils with the next generation Mushroom Kingdom racer.

However, that’s not going to stop Nintendo from introducing new content to the game. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting a free Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild update that will see the titular character in his latest iteration enter the fray.

While the iconic character already appeared in MK8 Deluxe, you can now choose to play as the Breath of the Wild Link in his blue Champion’s Tunic. As you have already guessed by the imagery, we are also getting the Master Cycle Zero – the odd, yet quite fun motorcycle Nintendo added to Breath of the Wild as part of the Champions Ballad DLC.

Along with Link’s ancient horse motorcycle cart, you’ll find a new glider pulled directly from Breath of the Wild. Beyond that, the free update also includes some minor behind the scenes improvements by the sounds of it.

Look who joined the race! Link from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild?!!?? Race or battle riding on the Master Cycle Zero and more!

This free update comes on the heels of full Labo support for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Just last month, Nintendo announced that players will able to use their cardboard Toy-Con motorbike creations to control their favorite racers in Mario Kart. And it works flawlessly. Head over to our full hands-on review for more details.

While it might not be the new Mario Kart game you were hoping for and even less of an indication that one is on the way, it is always nice to see free meaty updates. Here’s to hoping Nintendo takes Mario Kart the way of Super Smash Bros and puts every single Nintendo character ever into Mario Kart Ultimate for Switch.

Speaking of Nintendo games, we have some notable deals running right now on both digital indie titles and big time first party physical carts. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is starting at $44 and you’ll find even more right here.
