Sony is reportedly hard at work on a new PlayStation handheld console to take on Nintendo Switch 2 and the rest of the portable PC gaming space. The latest details are pointing at a proper PlayStation handheld this time around, not just a sort of companion streaming device for your home console like the PlayStation Portal Player. 

As we detailed previously, not only are there new Switch 2 Edition games, Switch 2 exclusives, and Switch 1 games you can play on your next-gen Nintendo console, but there are also a series of first-party Switch games getting FREE updates for Switch 2. This we already knew, but at the time Nintendo was incredibly vague about what these updates actually were, and now we have official details. 

Nintendo’s Switch 2 launch game lineup features more than a few major AAA ports of already released titles, and it sounds like the open-world wild west epic Red Dead Redemption 2 might soon be one of them. Developer Rockstar has been supporting the Switch for years and is already on record stating its “long-standing relationship with Nintendo,” but the latest suggests RDR2 might be its first launch on Switch 2. 

Update: Nintendo has officially confirmed via a statement that the Switch 2 only supports VRR in handheld mode. A Nintendo spokesperson shared this information with the folks over at Nintendo Life. The brand removed the mentions of VRR in docked mode from its official website, and confirmed the same via a statement with an apology for the confusion. It’s no secret that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be a major step up in performance, but what’s actually under the hood? After days of teasing, 8Bitdo has officially unveiled its new all-button arcade controllers. The company has introduced two versions: one compatible with the Nintendo Switch and PC, and an officially licensed Xbox Edition designed for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows. Both models are now available for pre-order on Amazon starting at $89.99 shipped, with a release date scheduled for July 15. These listings also fall under the Amazon pre-order Guarantee, meaning you’ll be charged the lowest price if they fall to a lower price between now and release. Sony has now officially unveiled the new WH-1000XM6 headphones. What might be the most anticipated pair of headphones in the last year has finally arrived as a follow up to some of the most cherished over-ear ANC cans in the business. This time around featuring a new, faster processor, enhanced noise cancellation, even better call quality with upgraded AI noise reduction, and a nicer, more compact design, the question is whether or not all of this and another jump in price will have fans trading out their beloved XM5s (or something from the other brands) for the new XM6.

Today we are taking a look at what some might consider a more affordable Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller alternative, the HORIPAD Turbo for Nintendo Switch 2. While I was a fan of the original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and our early hands-on impressions of the latest model are favorable, it is in many ways just a regular controller for Switch 2, an official one sure, but for the most part just your average gamepad that delivers a more traditional feel, and one that will cost you $85 to pre-order. 

NBC Universal might have just accidentally confirmed the name of the upcoming Mario movie sequel as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations. Yesterday we spotted the official Best Buy Switch 2 landing page specifically mentioning more console stock was inbound for launch day. Best Buy then quickly removed this mention altogether leaving most folks confused as to whether or not this was some kind of mistake or if it realized it wasn’t going to have any more units come next month. Best Buy has now confirmed a Switch 2 re-stock. Pre-orders came and went quite quickly on the eve of April 24 last month with a quick, and particularly short-lived re-stock at Walmart the following weekend, but stock has been essentially gone since then. Some six years after the release of the original Death Stranding, we are now just over a month out from the worldwide debut of the next Kojima epic, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. And with Kojima’s close partnership with the PlayStation team, it was only a matter time before the official Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Limited Edition DualSense controller was revealed. 

After reintroducing the Area-51 desktop earlier this year at CES, Alienware has now unleashed a new range of gaming laptops under its Aurora brand. The latest Aurora 16 and 16X laptops are powered by Intel’s Raptor Lake Refresh/Arrow Lake CPUs and RTX 50-series GPUs, and they even have redesigned chassis with a more subtle design compared to what we’re typically used to seeing the brand. Today might be your last chance to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order folks. Switch 2 pre-orders came and went awfully quick at the tail end of last month. While we did catch a quick re-stock at Walmart that more than a few 9to5Toys readers were able to take advantage of the following weekend, console pre-orders in the U.S. (and basically everywhere else) have been long gone since then. Most major retailers, including Walmart, have now updated their Switch 2 console listings to ready for launch day – this appears to be the next chance we’ll have to score one at retail, but there is still a chance to land a pre-order, is not a big chance, but there is still hope as Nintendo’s invites will go out starting tomorrow. 

The looming and rumored upcoming release of the Sony XM6 headphones are easily the most anticipated thing in personal audio thus far in 2025. Leaks, rumors, and datamined details have been surfacing across the web in full force over the last few months (and well before that) but a listing for the new headphones quickly popped up on Amazon Spain over the last several hours, all but conforming an imminent release while also leaking a potential release date and the specs of the beloved next XM series headphones.

We first heard about an Xbox-branded gaming handheld earlier this year in March when the rumor mill started churning out reports about Microsoft working with an OEM partner for it. Now, a fresh set of leaked images have shown up online, giving us our first look at what appears to be ASUS’ ROG Ally 2 handheld. In just a few weeks after announcing the launch of its RTX 5060 family of graphics cards, NVIDIA has now confirmed that its entry-level RTX 5060 GPU will hit the shelves later this month on May 19. This is the $299 graphics card that was announced alongside the two RTX 5060 Ti models that went on sale last month and now available at various retailers like Amazon. Microsoft has taken to the official Xbox Wire to announce that Gears of War: Reloaded is landing on Xbox, Steam and PlayStation 5 this summer. Switch 2 pre-orders never went live on Amazon in the U.S. – some outlets suggested they likely will, others were much less optimistic. While Amazon stopped carrying most first-party Switch games previously, it would still somehow have stock popping up during major sales, but, while there is still an official Nintendo storefront on Amazon, just about everything on there is sold by third-party sellers at this point. In Canada however, for our friends north of the border, this isn’t entirely the case as pre-order listings for Switch 2 did go live there (to some degree) and invites to purchase one are still being sent out. 

It looks there’s a Chrono Trigger remake in the works folks. In a recent interview at Comicon in Naples, the legendary game designer and writer Yuji Horii accidentally let it slip that the equally as beloved and iconic SNES-era RPG was going back to the drawing board for what sounds like some sort of modern remake. 

Don’t forget that some Switch 1 games are getting FREE Switch 2 upgrades. Outside of how difficult it was for some folks to secure a Switch 2 pre-order, most of the not-so positive talk surrounding the next-generation of Switch 2 gaming has been about the price. Nintendo is charging $10 to $20 for upgrade packs on Switch 2 Edition Switch 1 games like Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart World carries a $79.99 list price, and that Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour system demo game thing that should be FREE is $10. But there are some Switch 1 games that are getting FREE SWitch 2 upgrades. Let’s dig in. 

Rockstar has now officially delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI until May 2026. In an official announcement on the Rockstar Games site this morning, and after just about all indications pointed to the biggest game on the pending release schedule (or maybe ever) landing this year, Rockstar has confirmed GTA VI will not see store shelves until next year.

Microsoft has now confirmed it is raising the price of all Xbox Series X|S consoles alongside $80 list prices on physical games. In an official announcement made this morning, Microsoft Xbox brand announced sweeping price hikes across its latest-generation gaming hardware alongside first-party peripherals like controllers and headsets as well as some of its upcoming games. 

After a short and sweet leak yesterday, Sony quickly confirmed Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford’s accidental tweet stating the new release date for Borderlands 4, and scheduled in today’s next State of Play showcase. Borderlands 4 is confirmed for release on all major consoles, Switch 2 included, but today Sony will be hosting a gameplay deep dive on the highly-anticipated title ahead of its September launch. 

Arguably the greatest and most adorable new release for Star Wars Day is now up for pre-order as the new life-size Grogu collectible figure from Hot Toys is now live. We loved our time with previous iterations of these life-sized Grogu figures, but this latest Hot Toys release is even more impressive if you ask me – the details in the face alone are seriously impressive. Now up for pre-sale and starting to ship in June, you can secure one right now for $270 before they (probably) sell out.
