If you’ve ever edited video or photos, you know the clicking is endless and never very precise. You always end up getting the cursor “close” to where you want it, and rarely exactly. All because you’re limited by the movement of a mouse cursor that has to be tracked on the desk where your mouse sits. Palette Gear aims to change that with their Control modules. From knobs to sliders, they give absolute precise control when it comes to editing photos and videos, all for a fairly affordable price.
Last time we covered Palette Gear was over two years ago when the price was higher and the abilities were less and were only available at a handful of retailers. Now, the modules that Palet uses serve three main purposes: buttons for performing specific actions, dials for precise turning up and down of infinite proportions, and sliders that allow for extremely fine tuning of certain areas of editing. Palette Gear works with most Adobe apps like Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, and more. The modules even have colored rings around their perimeter that allows you to specify which does what by color and easily recognize without having to remember each individually.
With their magnetic connection, Palette Gear makes it super simple to expand or shrink your workspace. If you’re traveling, it’s super easy to pack up your Palette modules and you can bring only what you’ll need while leaving the rest behind and easy to pick up once you arrive back home. The included display screen is OLED and allows you to see the currently active profile that you’re using, so you always know what functions are programmed to the modules.
Now, Palette doesn’t just limit itself to working with creative applications. The buttons and knobs can be programmed to do any number of functions to assist in even the most monotonous daily tasks. You can program buttons to functions like cut/copy/paste, and even the dial to something like undo/redo depending on which way you spin it. You can program up to three different shortcuts to the knobs; rotate right, rotate left, and press.
Palette is also very focused on the community, and they even have a public profile sharing system. This online community allows you to share specific programs and setups that you use in your daily life with Palette Gear. There are several notable ones that we saw just off the bat. Things like Premiere Pro color, Lightroom presets, and more are available with Palette Profiles.
Palette Gear is now available on Amazon and B&H starting at $199. Palette also offers their “Expert” and “Professional” kits which come with more modules to start with for $299 and $499.
