Apple
Apple itself and authorized resellers are competiting for your iPhone 6 purchase next week. This battle has spurred some retailers to sweeten the pot with trade-in offers. We’ve already seen Verizon Wireless up the ante with its offer that allows iPhone 4 owners to trade up to an iPhone 6 for free.
Now, Radio Shack is the first retailer to offer a non-trade special on Apple’s all-new line of flagship smartphones…

Update (9/12 2:45pm): The trade-in promo is outlined in this press release by Verizon.
Update (9/11 11:15am): The promo is still not back up on Verizon’s site, but the details can be found in this post made by a Verizon Wireless Customer Support rep.
Update (9/10 5:45pm): Looks like the promo has been removed Verizon’s website. We’re reaching out to Verizon to find out what is going on.
In light of Apple’s iPhone 6 announcements, we’re expecting a flurry of trade-in promos from carriers and trade-in services. We’ve already covered your best iPhone 6 trade-in options, but this Verizon promo stood out to us.
Verizon is promising a $200 gift card for any working iPhone 4/4s/5/5c/5s. Now, you can probably get a higher rate for all of the iPhone 5 models, but $200 for a 5-year old iPhone 4 is way above market value.
For example, Gazelle is currently offering $15 for a working Verizon 8GB iPhone 4 and $50 for a working AT&T 8GB iPhone 4. Amazon prices are better at ~$57 for similar configurations, but that’s still not close to the $200 Verizon is offering as part of this promo.
It’s not clear if it works on preorders or not, and other details remain scarce, so check back for the latest updates.
Last month, we posted an in-depth comparison of several iPhone trade-in services ahead of the September 9th announcement of the new iPhones. We came away with Amazon being your best bet for its pricing, but while Apple’s prices aren’t the best, the convenience of being able to trade-in your older iPhone at purchase of a new model is compelling.
You can now add another trade-in program the list: iCracked. The company’s main differentiator is that they have representatives stationed across the United States who will actually meet you at a location of your choice to purchase your phone. This means you will be handed a pre-paid debit card with the amount on the spot, versus having to wait to ship the phone, have it checked out, and be shipped back a check, card, or issued an online credit (although they can do this as well if you want).
iCracked is offering a special for 9to5Mac readers by guaranteeing higher offers than competitor Gazelle. Using the promo code “9TO5MAC,” readers will get a $20 bonus on values above $25. Also with that promo code, readers will get prices locked up until October 11th. If that $25 increase still does not beat the Gazelle price, iCracked says to email them at buyback@icracked.com, and they’ll increase the offer to exceed Gazelle’s by $10.

Update: Staples is offering the below starter kit for $160 (or less) using code 76791
Amazon is offering the Philips Hue Personal Wireless Lighting BR30 Starter Pack (432682) for $175.49 shipped. That’s nearly $25 off the regular price and the lowest we’ve seen this kit go for. It regularly goes for $200 at all other major retailers including the Apple Store, Staples, and others.
It includes three BR30 Hue light bulbs and a bridge which can control up to 50 bulbs throughout an entire home (A19 or BR30). At $60 each, purchasing three BR30 Hue light bulbs individually would run you $180 without the bridge on Amazon.
The Phillips Hue smart system offers full control over the lighting throughout an entire space using a iOS or Android smartphone/tablet. Not only do these bulbs use LED technology which offers up to 80% energy savings and a much longer life, but they can also be switched between 16 million different colors and feature hassle-free dimming.
The Philips Hue system comes with a 2 year warranty and has received a 4.1/5 star rating from over 500 Amazon customers. Be sure to check out Elgato’s new Eve home automation system as well, it features Apple HomeKit integration, Avea smart LED lights and Smart Power batteries.

Beach Camera via eBay Daily Deals offers the Apple iPad Air 32GB WiFi in Silver or Space Gray for $489.99 shipped. While it is not as large of a discount as $130 off from Staples last week, the tax benefits of purchasing via eBay outweigh the Staples discount. This is the lowest price we could currently find for this model.
The iPad Air features an ‘impossibly thin’ unibody design, a beautiful 2048 x 1536 Retina display, and blazing fast A7 chip so you can multitask with ease.
If you are looking for something in a small form factor, Best Buy is offering $100 off the first generation iPad mini.

Not to be outdone by Target’s massive iPad sale two weeks ago, Best Buy is also dropping $100 off the first generation iPad mini. Technically, Target’s sale was $0.99 less, but that’s because for some odd reason the national retailer adds $0.99 to the MSRP of many products.
Available in silver and space gray, the iPad mini will only set you back $199.99 this week at Best Buy. That’s a savings of more than 33% and a match for the best price we’ve ever seen. Of course, it isn’t Apple’s latest tablet and there are likely to be updated models around the corner, but for less than $200 it’s perfect for casual users. The first generation iPad mini will be supported by iOS 8 and features a 7.9-inch LED-backlit display, 10-hour battery life, and dual-core A5 chip.
Protect your new iPad with this heavily discounted waterproof LifeProof case. Also, the iPad mini with Retina display remains on sale for $350 or $300 with an .edu email address.

Best Buy is knocking $50 off iPad mini with Retina display WiFi models today with an extra $50 off for those with access to a .edu email address. Keep in mind we currently have the 16GB WiFi model in space gray or silver for $320 (or $80 off), which is a better deal for those without a .edu address. While that deal is available via eBay where many buyers will see tax benefits, with a .edu address this model can be had for $300 at Best Buy today.
If you do have a .edu or are looking for a model with more storage, Best Buy has the 32GB and 64GB iPad mini with Retina Display models available starting at $449.99 shipped ($400 w/ .edu). Note: Tax varies depending on the state.
Apple’s pint size tablet features a 7.9″ 2048×1536 resolution display, A7 chip with M7 motion coprocessor, and 802.11n WiFi with MIMO technology. We also have some great prices on highly rated iPad mini cases from LifeProof today starting at $25 (up to $35 off).
If it is the iPad Air that has caught your attention, Staples is offering up to $130 off various models right now.

Speakers and receivers that support Apple AirPlay streaming generally cost much more than their Bluetooth counterparts. But that’s no surprise since we’re all very well aware of Apple tax. Anways, many people, including myself, prefer AirPlay streaming over Bluetooth since it’s easier to setup and typically works at further distances.
Jump in on this deal to add AirPlay streaming to nearly any set of speakers or receiver you already have. DBROTH via Amazon offers the iReceiver Wi-Fi Music Receiver for $19.99 with free Prime shipping when you enter coupon code INH83PMX at checkout. If you aren’t a Prime member (free trial), then shipping costs will vary or you’ll have to pad your order to $35 or more to get free shipping. That’s $50 below list and a much more affordable option than buying an AirPort Express to accomplish the same task. It simply connects via the included 3.5mm aux cable.
Available in white or black. Reviews are a bit mixed at 3.3 stars but at just $20 it should be worth your time.

Apple has recently added the 2014 MacBook Air to the refurbished section of the Apple Online Store. Currently, the 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5 11-inch MacBook Air is available in two configurations priced at $769 and $929, with 128 GB and 256 GB SSD’s respectively. 13-inch Air’s have also been in the store at various times in the last couple of days, so should return once Apple replenishes their refurbished inventory. These reduced prices are equivalent to around 15% savings in comparison new models from Apple’s site. The products were added two days ago, and have been lapsing in and out of stock constantly, so — like much of Apple’s refurbished offerings — quantities are obviously limited.

For the next six days, or until supplies are exhausted, Staples is discounting a variety of current generation Apple iPods and a first generation iPad mini. The break down is as follows:
We saw slightly lower prices on many of these items from Staples two weeks ago. But these are the best prices you’ll find if you need an iPod right now.
Walmart has cut the prices of both of the current iPhone models substantially in what looks like some early prep for the iPhone 6, which is expected next month. As noted by Engadget, you’ll be able to get the 16 GB model of the iPhone 5c for only $.97. No, that’s not a typo. The phone is now selling for ninety-seven cent.
The 16 GB iPhone 5s also got yet another price cut, this time down from $99 to $79. Both of these prices are only temporary and will climb back to their usual points in 90 days—unless of course a newer model comes along and knocks the retail price of these handsets down a few bucks.
Update (8/26 12:45pm): Price has dropped to $90.55 shipped (Reg. $130)

Confirming our report from earlier this month, Target has revived its $199 iPad mini sale this morning. At the time of posting it’s available both online at Target.com and at Target retail locations.
We’ve been told by a Target rep that quantities are limited and as such we highly recommend picking one up today. This deal is $100 better than retail and $20 less than Apple charges for a refurbished model. The first generation iPad mini features a 7.9-inch LED-backlit display, 10-hour battery life, and dual-core A5 chip.

There’s also a $50 discount on the iPad Air, but that isn’t nearly as noteworthy since several retailers were offering it for $100 off last week.
REDcard holders can save additional 5%. Limit 2 iPads per customer, while supplies last.
Note: if size matters to you, you can get a 9.7-inch 32GB iPad 2 for $220 on Ebay. Though it is refurbished, you’ll likely be spared tax at time of purchase.

Staples and Best Buy have both kicked off significant iPad sales. First, Staples is taking $100 off all iPad Air WiFi models when you enter coupon code 79449 at checkout. That means the entry-level 16GB model is only $399, which is $20 less then Apple charges for it in refurbished condition. At the time of posting, all storage capacities except for the 128GB model are available in both Space Gray and Silver.
Next, Best Buy is knocking $50 off iPad mini with retina display. Both WiFi and cellular (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint) models are included in this sale. That drops the 16GB WiFi model down to $349.99. Even the biggest critics of warrantees generally agree that AppleCare for Macs is a worthwhile investment if you have the room in your budget. In fact, it consistently pummels competition in Consumer Reports’ yearly tech support survey.

AppleCare for Macs extends the original 1-year hardware and 90-day phone support to 3-years. This is extremely valuable for Mac owners since these beautiful laptops are nearly impossible to repair for the average consumer and out-of-pocket repairs are extremely costly from Apple. Unfortunately, it does not cover accidental damage to your Mac, but one repair instance is likely to pay for the upfront cost of the plan.
Unlike iPhone and iPad AppleCare Protection Plans, it can be added to any Mac within 1-year of purchase. Each standalone AppleCare box will include a code that you can register online to your Mac’s serial number.

Update (7/6 7:30am): This promotion is now live via Target online and Target stores.
Last month Target set the deal world ablaze with its $199 iPad mini deal. This major retailer looks primed to once again launch an unprecedented iPad sale.
According to a leaked ad scan that has shown up on several online forums and blogs, starting this Sunday July 6th, Target will offer free $100 gift cards with the purchase of an iPad Air or iPad with Retina display. The ad only mentions 16GB capacities of both models, but also states “other Wi-Fi models available” for iPad Air, so this discount may apply to more configurations beyond 16GB. We won’t know for sure until the deal page goes live later this weekend.
You can also save 10% on all iTunes gift cards and $10 on an Apple TV. Target is also besting Walmart’s recent iPhone promotion by offering a 5s for $100 with a free $20 gift card.
We have frequently seen the iPad Air drop to $400 via eBay Daily Deals, but this is the first time we have seen a current generation iPad promotion of this caliber from a major retailer.
REDcard holders can save an additional 5% on top of all advertised prices.

Nomad has made a name for itself by creating some of the most portable Lightning cables on the market and recently began accepting preorders for its new NomadClip ($39).
This caribiner-shaped Lightning charge and sync cable is made from an engineering-grade polycarbonate and high grade steel so it can withstand some tough love. Clip it onto your backpack, belt loop, or keychain to make sure you’re never without a Lightning cable.

The entire Nomad product line has also been refreshed with MFi certification. This includes the ChargeKey ($29), which was born from a successful Kickstarter campaign. This handy charger is just about the size of a key and is durable enough to dangle an iPhone, flexible enough to bend at a 90 degree angle, and is Apple-certified to charge and sync your Lightning equipped devices. Of course, you can pick up much longer MFi Lightning cables for less, but they don’t offer the same convenience that the Chargekey does.
The card sized NomadCard ($29) also gained MFi certification and is “designed to fit in your wallet just like a credit card, so you’ll always have a smartphone charging cable on you.”
All three of these new products are now available for preorder and are expected to ship by the end of November.
Each product is also available with Micro USB. For a limited time, coupon code LIVESIMPLE will slash 25% off your total purchase. Note: the unique link we used for this post will pop-up a different coupon code but ignore it. Use the one mentioned above (LIVESIMPLE) as it has a higher value.

Best Buy is taking up to 58% off select iPad mini Smart Covers, which yields prices from $16.99. Orders of $35+ ship free or you can opt for in-store pickup to dodge freight charges. It’s rare to see a discount this large on retail-packaged, current generation Apple products.
A must have accessory for many iPad owners, the Smart Cover snaps into place thanks to perfectly positioned magnets, has sleep/wake functionality, and can be folded into a stand to make viewing movies and typing more comfortable. It’s compatible with the first generation iPad mini and newest iPad mini with Retina display.

Less than two weeks ago, Apple began offering its education customers modest iPad discounts, but now Best Buy has stepped up and basically made them irrelevant. The new Best Buy student deals that launched yesterday extend a $50 discount to all iPad Air and Retina iPad mini models, which is up to two and a half times as much as Apple’s edu pricing.
You’ll need to furnish a .edu email address to qualify for these Best Buy discounts, but once you receive your unique coupon code you can choose to make your purchase online or at any retail location. Of course, we recommend following us closely to stay up with all the best iPad deals, but if there aren’t any current deals and you’re in desperate need of an iPad, then Best Buy’s edu pricing is likely your best bet.
Other promotions include $150 off Macs and 30% off Incase MacBook accessories.
Check out the full list of our iPad deals we found today.
